Ski Graphics

Gotta admit. Most skis look, well not so great. But we buy them cuz they ski well. I mean who designs those top sheets? Gads. I can tolerate my Nodica AB's topsheet cuz they ski so well. My wife hated how her last pair of Metron's looked, but she lived with them becuase they performed well.

Now oddly we both got new skis this season and not only do they ski well, but we actually LIKE the graphics! How often does that happen? I mean really?

Mine: Classy and understated in guy sorta way. They look solid and ski solid.

Her's. Pretty and tasteful. She loves the way they look and loves the way they ski.

So, when was the last time you bought a ski that you liked and looked good? My guess is not likely, but possible. Mostly we tolerate a topsheet design in the light of a well performing ski. 'Tis a rare bird that skis as well as it looks.

Graphics won't sell a ski, but they will stop a sale. You have some people here who have designed skis for hart, Midwest Pete did some skis for hart (and vertical), Bob Barnes did the current hart Javelin series and although I didn't lay the ink to the paper, I came up with the Hart Pulse and Attack. I agree the above Dynastar Sultan 94 is a sharp ski (and actually skis well too), I think Rossi and Nordica missed the mark graphics wise on most of their skis but the reviews say otherwise. I am a fan of Kastles understated grapics too.

There is a saying in the business world of men's suits that follows what you said. The right suit won't land you a job, but the wrong suit will prevent you from getting said job.

What you said: ski companies take note. cool.gif

I know what you mean, not a big fan of the look of my skis...but they rip and that's what counts.  head_monster_im82sw_09.jpg

I mean who gave the okay for that design? I can just hear the conversation right now...

Alright we've got this sick all-mountain ski here and we're going to call it the monster but we need some ideas for the top sheet that fit the name, any ideas?  Well ____ I was thinking that we put a big bird-like thing on it. And then just repeat it a couple times and flip it upside down and shit.icon13.gif

My brother's on the other hand look pretty sick.

I think it is a damn shame that my tuning shop now has to include a paintbooth.

Krylon Fusion spray paint.

Not one I have disliked. Honestly though graphics aren't something that would keep me from buying a ski that performed the way I like.

How did you like the Billy Goat?   It is stiffer than I expected (just mounted up a pair) but I haven't skied it.  The graphics don't stand out one way or another on that ski: quite pedestrian, but on a pair of skis, that is a good thing.  I haven't seen too many "wow" graphics on skis, and if I did, somebody else would probably think it looked like puke (like this snowboard from Roam: http://www.romesnowboards.com/product/boards/artifact/   Check out the 144cm).
