Title says it all -- we are trying to decide which week to go....does it make a difference?  Is either more likely to have a chance at better snow?

Billy, either week is great and its a aweseom year for the Boat'

First week in Feb, http://my.steamboat.com/xn/detail/2284251:Event:39511   It's winter carnival and that's a lot of fun with Ski-Jorning, ski- jumping, torch light parade and a bunch of other stuff,

There are also a bunch of bears heading up there the week of Jan 29- Feb 5th (I am going then) and then Feb 5-12th

March is a bit warmer as the days are a little longer. Snow pack should be awesome and there's usually good snow in March as well. The first week should be just before the madness of Spring break.

Thanks Finn -

Is it generally much more crowded during the winter festival week / weekend?

I would pick early Feb.  Steamboat is fairly low and has some exposure issues later in the season.

Generally resorts hold winter carnivals in slow periods to draw people into town.  I don't think crowds on the hill would be a big issue.

No not really, a slightly bigger weekend crowd but barely.  Early March is when springbreak crowds start, and those get big, so early Feb will definitely be less crowded (as long as you're not talking presidents day week... then it really gets busy).
