Hi all - Would appreciate some collective parental wisdom. My 8 year old, 54 lbs, is set to move to 115 cm skis he got for Christmas. Level 6 according to instructors, pretty much straight parallel, about half are carved. Not super fast skier (yet), no park or tricks (yet). Has Tyrolia SL 45's on his current skis, set at 1.0, do not want to remove since skis will be used by younger brother.
So will need new bindings, and according to Tyrolia, he falls just about at end of SL 45's (DIN .75-4.5) and beginning of SL 70's (DIN 2-7) in terms of his weight (they say above 45 lbs is OK for SL70's but others recommend waiting until 60 lbs) and ski length (recommend moving to SL 70 for skis >120 cm.
So: Do I do the usual parental thing and buy big, assuming the recs are conservative, or will I be putting his joints at risk if he goes to a 2 DIN?
