Salt Lake City January 20 to February 7

If anyone is planning on skiing Utah around 20 January to 7 February 2011, I'm looking for ski buddies!

I'll be there by myself as I am due to do some PSIA training to keep my certification.  There's some events I'm planning to do at Alta, and Sundance, but that's only 4 days so I've got a lot of other days to fill, and you can only do so much shopping (SLC and the Tanger Outlets in Park City will do well out of me).

Planning on staying in Salt Lake City around Midvale, although I'm still looking at websites trying to work out where to stay. Planning on hiring a car as it does make life so much easier.

So I'm just hanging this out there to see if anyone else is looking for people to ski with.  I only ski once every two years these days, (yes I know it's a bit pathetic), so enjoy cruising around, bumps, trees and powder are nice if they're about, but taking flying leaps off cliffs and radical/extreme stuff I leave to the younger folk.

Has anyone responded to you yet?

I work in the city next to Midvale and I live 2 cities away from Midvale.  I could give you a lift up if I go.

hey, thanks. I've had one reply and we are colluding by email, comparing notes on accommodation, cars and places to ski.  I'd have hoped a few more Bears were skiing Utah during this time!

I'm still prowling Trip Advisor and hotels.com looking at places to stay, and it looks like Downtown has some better options.  I lived a season in Murray so know the Midvale/Cottonwood/Holladay area better. (and Sugarhouse, I guess).

Are you going to be skiing in that time? We could all hook up maybe.

Well, I don't know if what I do qualifies as skiing.....I haven't been skiing since 2008, even though I live here.  But I just bought new skis.

I got a coupon for night skiing at Brighton for $17 on Tuesdays.  So next Tuesday, I'm going to have little kid snowboarders stare at me because they've never seen a skier before and I will see if I have regressed into a 100% Gaper or just a Mostly Gaper.

I live here and will be around. PM me to hook up.

I'm also looking for people to ski with - was me that responded.  I'll be around from Jan 17 till Feb13, but will also likely head elsewhere during that period - Jackson probably.

I'm looking to ski BCC / LCC resorts and Snowbasin, Pow Mtn, maybe even Canyons or PCMR.

Utah must have good skiing/boarding.

When you consider how awful our beer is and Australians still want to come here; that's impressive........

Well I finally managed to make the Qantas bookings site work, and I'm coming over on January 25th, and staying 2 weeks until February 8th!

My only committments are a couple of days at Sundance on Feb 3 and 4 (PSIA training) and the rest of the time I hope to be skiing with you guys above.   BCiski's hills of choice will be mine too, actually anything with snow on it will attract me.

Staying at Candlewood at the Fort Union/1300 east junction, so not far from the liquor store so I can see what APAs they have. Great fan of the APA. The style is getting very popular in Australia too.

I will be skiing in Utah from late January to early Feburary. I will be staying in a pop-up camper loaded on a 91 dodge diesel pick-up truck. You will likely find me parked at ski area parking lots at Snowbird, Alta, and Snow Basin if allowed, otherwise the nearest Walmart.

BTW I'm 62 and not as much of a hard charger that i used to be, but I'm still comfortable skiing all mountain except extreme and I'm pretty sure I can keep up in most situations as I have averaged 80 ski days per year for the past 35+ years.

Hey DanoT, that sounds like my kind of trip, those campers are brilliant. Did that years ago but (cough) we don't mention the war...    I'm old and state firmly that I do not indulge in acrobatics off cliffs. Ferreting out soft snow is my main interest, followed by beer.

will you be contactable in Utah?

I skiied Brighton last century (in 98) and it was certainly a different culture, although in those days mostly polite.

I think we briefly set ski in it during the Utah Interconnect tour in 2007, too. Didn't see any natives though.

I'm quite looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with the BCC resorts, even when I lived in SLC, my skis were in the locker room up LCC and skiing BCC was just too complicated.

(bump)  So, anyone else going to be around SLC and/or Utah from the 25th?

I've been packing, my ski boots appear to have shrunk so I'll be sitting in my hotel room on Tuesday night in SLC, pulling off the old padding that was added to them.  We are having another hot spell in SE Australia so I'll be glad to escape that to nice cold Utah.

I plan on coming to SLC at some point during the period of 1/29-2/6 IF there is fresh snow in the forecast (I'm gonna book a flight and lodging at the last minute to maximize time spent skiing powder and minimize sunny/dry days).  Primarily am looking for fresh powder in-bounds, blue or black (but not extreme) terrain.  Prefer to avoid crowds if possible.  Would love to have someone to ski with as I find I can ski more aggressively in the trees/powder and stuff if I have a "ski buddy"...

Well, I'll have my laptop with me in Utah and 'net access, I'll PM you my email address. Fresh/soft inbounds is my no. 1 priority (out of bounds in Utah is quite a daunting prospect, all the machinery you have to wear), and I'm as rusty as hell so nothing extreme for me (even skiing every day, I didn't venture off cliffs anyway).  Sounds like there's a few of us around SLC during that time so it would be great to get together.   it's always nicer to have someone to ski with (and scrape you off trees).

Ant, I pm'd you my contact info.  I'll be up at Solitude Fri, Sat and Sun this weekend.

It's finally snowing here in SLC and everywhere around it. Sorely needed, the groomers are getting very hard packed and off them is all skiied out and variable, either nice dry stuff or stuff that looks nice but rattles your teeth.   I'm skiing tomorrow for sure!  I imagine all the crazies are crawling over each other to get the few inches of fresh as I type.
