Last Monday gave me a good reason to close shop and ski.  These were the best conditions I have seen at Hunter MTN

Very nice.  I was up the Sunday before Christmas and the mountain was in great shape, but nothing like that:(.  I went again this past Wednesday and the mountain was in good shape and the lines were not as bad as I expected during Holiday week.  The new 6 pack moves the lines pretty quickly.  It started to get a bit scratchy around 2:00 though.

I actually got up early yesterday and started to drive up, but there was so much fog I didn't want to take a 2 1/2 hour ride with the chance of not being able to see well and the warm weather we had.  I turned around about 15 minutes up the GSP and came home.  I'm thinking about going up on Sunday.

Looks like the lack of snow clearing in the Boroughs paid off for those that made Hunter.

Thanks for the video.

Looks amazing. Loved the wipeout from the cliff jump at the start of the 2nd video, that jump pretty much sucks though since the landing is practically uphill. I once decided I was going to ski it (on a day after 6" powder day and it was late December) and came down, peeked over the edge and the thing looked bigger and I'm like wait, that landing is uphill so I went against it and a rough landing. The crowd above doesn't help either. Your K27 run looked good though, were the mogul troughs filled? Couldn't telll from the video. Looked like a kickass day though!

Looks like they'll be getting a little bit of snow Friday/Saturday.  How much remains to be seen.  It wouldn't even be worth mentioning out west, but around here a few inches is cause for celebration and breaking out the powder skis:)

Getting out this weekend?

I'll be going to Hunter either Saturday or Sunday.  Will you be up there?

Will try to ski Sat and or Sun.

Maybe Hunter, or maybe Vermont, depends on the weather.

I'm considering it - probably decide later this evening so I'm ready to go after work tomorrow.

I went today and the mountiain was in good shape in the morning, not so much late in the day.  Lines were not bad with a few chair wait on the west side when I was there from 10-11:30.  Claire's and Annapurna had the snow guns blowing and had good cover.  All other times I did laps on the six pack and hit almost all of the other trails with the exception of the 2 major bump runs (K27 and Crossover).  I did some smaller bump runs, but I've got too many other parts of my game that need practice so I spent a lot of time concentrating on reaching forward for pole plants, as this was what many who have skied with me said to wrok on (BWPA, Uncle Louie, Jbprof to name a few).  I think I finally got used to it and will continue to work on that every time I go.  I'm hoping to hit double digit ski day this year, which is about 3 more than I usually get.

It flurried offf and on throghout the day, but not enough to matter.  I was going to leave at 2:30, but the lines thinned out so I stayed on until 3:45.  My legs were shot and it was very icy by that time.  All in all it was a great day.

Any Bears getting any of the dumping this week?  Heard it was heavy near the coast, but might have been pretty good up on the mountain again.  Looks like you are getting the dump zone the lower mid atlantic had last season

We got about a foot yesterday, but unfortunately I'm about 150 miles from any decent skiing in the Catskills, which I've heard did not get nearly as much.  I'll be heading up to Windham this Sunday if anyone is going to be around.  I prefer Hunter, but one in the party does not ski very often and better intermediate terrain at Windham I think.

Heading up to Hunter later this afternoon to hang with few friends for the weekend.

One of them has a nice blown out A-frame right on the mountain.

I have no intentions of skiing this weekend, not even bringing my equipment.

I just don't like the way that mountain skis.

Damn... I could never pass up skiing if I had the opportunity.

I went to Hunter yesterday and it was a great day.  It was flurrying for most of the day and it definitely helped cover some of the scratchy areas.  I practiced a little in some low level bumps and was almost getting into a rhythm.  I'll be hitting Flatten Thursday meeting some friends if my car can make it up there.  Forecast calls for snow tomorrow and Wednesday:)

I was there Saturday, 1/29... Conditions were glacier like, especially on the Westside, where a cpl trails were barely skiable. Granted, I have iM88s, which were not ideal for the conditions. I wound up selling the 2d day of my 2day pass and then woke up Sunday to the snow that was coming down all morning and early afternoon. It made me wonder if it was better Sunday, so thx for that report Northeasterner!

Looks like the Catskill ski areas will be getting 8-10 fresh inches Tues through Wed though!!!

Going this coming Saturday with a sizable group.   Ski suggestions?  FIS RD GS skis?  SuperShape Speed?  iM88s? or rock skis.

@ Richie-Rich: I was on iM88s and was not thrilled as I just couldn't get grip in the ice(I also might need my edges sharpened though), BUT if Hunter gets 8-12 tues/wed and more that is expected Fri/Sat, you will have WAY different conditions and might be loving life on them. If you have room for 2 pairs, maybe bring the 88s and either ur GS race skis or the Supershape Speeds?

That's the same report I got from my friends who skied Sat. That & horrendous lift lines.

There was not even an inch of snow Sun. (I stayed on the mtn) so I don't think skiing improved any.

I'll be bouncing around VT. next week after the Supebowl & yes I will be skiing.
