Salt Lake City advice? What if I get stuck?

I have a flight scheduled tomorrow at 5 PM from Atlanta to Salt Lake City.

Word on the street is that the snowstorms (currently in Washington state) will drop 6-10 inches on Salt Lake City tomorrow and that the road to the Cottonwood Canyon might close until Thursday afternoon.

My flight lands in SLC at 7:30PM. If the shuttle can't make it out to get me Wednesday night, what is my best option? Spend the night at the airport? Take a taxi to a cheap motel? Tour the LDS church at night?

Never been to SLC, so I don't know the lay of the land.

Not much you can do to get up LCC if it is closed. I would get a room and take the bus up BCC or rent a car and go to PC for the day if you can't get in to LCC.

Check this before you leave. http://www.udot.utah.gov/main/f?p=100:pg:0:::1:T,V:1673

Either call the number or check the weblink. It will tell you if LCC will be closed.

Agree with above advice. The whole advantage of SLC is that you have so many resorts within close proximity. So use that advantage and just go somewhere else if LCC is closed. There are plenty of hotels near the airport, and I assume they have shuttles that can pick you up (probably free shuttles, so forget the taxi). Stay near the airport and then play it by ear the next day.

Cool cool.  I guess my friends (already there) will have to wait on me if they get snowed in.

You could try calling the airline and see if they could bump you up to a earlier flight. Might be possible if they over booked.

You're lucky. The people flying out are going to have some really fun air-moguls on the way.

I'm sure they'll figure out what to do with themselves...

Do you already have a place up LCC?  If the road is open, Canyon transport will get you up there.

IF the road is already closed, jump on Priceline or Hotwire and grab a cheap place at the airport. $45ish should get you a decent room and most of them have free shuttles to/from the airport.

The canyon shuttle companies should have the inside track on openings and closures.
