I am 46 yo, 5' 10"/165 lbs and ski mostly off piste- bumps, steeps, trees, etc. I'm in Seattle, so mostly ski Crystal/Steven's, but take quite a few trips to Canada (Sun Peaks, Kicking Horse, Whistler) and Tahoe.
My most used skis in the past 5 years are the Legend 8 K, Mantra, and Gotama (pre-rockered), all in the 178 range. I really like the feel of the Legends, but find that I rarely ski them nowadays, unless there is drought of snow. Usually there is quite a bit of cut up snow and the Legends get thrown around a bit. I like the Mantras, but I find that they are work in the bumps and tend to tip dive in any fresh snow. Just fills a little too stiff. Nowadays, the Gotamas are my everyday skis. I really like the ski, but it is a bit slower in the bumps and edge to edge in the harder snow.
I'm looking for a ski which would complement my Gotama and be better in the 2 inch dumps, harder snow, and bumps. I still would like a wider ski (>90), but the more I read, the more confused I get. Last year, I purchased the Blizzard Titan Argos based on some reviews here, but hated the ski. Much too stiff and powerful for me. As I get older, my speed limit has gone down and find myself liking the softer, more playful ski.
So, I'm thinking:
