Hi Gang, new member here and my first post is a pretty lengthy question. I'm a 42 y.o. male 5' 7" 185 lb in pretty decent shape. I've snowboarded for the last 4 years and would classify myself as an upper intermediate rider, I've decided to switch to skiing as I find facing forward on skis instead of sideways on a board more natural. I've taken 2 lessons so far this month in Vermont and am already more comfortable on skis than my board, so I know that I will definitely be making the switch to skiing. I live in New York and my "home" mountain is Okemo in Vermont, but I actually ride more out west in Jackson each year. So after that lengthy intro, here's my question, I will be making an appointment with Stephen McDonald for custom boot fitting as soon as I get to Jackson in January. So that takes care of boots, but since I will be there for 5 weeks, the cost to rent skis will approach 75 to 100% of buying them. So I'd like to get some suggestions for 2-4 skis that I can demo in the first couple days when I take some more lessons in Jackson so that I can buy a set up after my first week. I will never be going into the park and not really into moguls, my main interests are groomers, Powder and Trees. So I was thinking of approaching my skis like I did with my boards, a 2 quiver set up. A daily driver for the groomers and tree runs with some light powder and then a set of fattys for the big powder days. I don't want to limit myself by buying a set of beginners skis that I'll outgrow before my trip is over, I'd much rather have to work at progressing into a set of intermediate/upper intermediate skis that will last me a few seasons. So if any of you are still reading this and don't want to punch me in the face by now, what would you suggest as a short list of skis to demo in the 50/50 category and also in the POW specific category? Thanks for any help.
