TR: Early season goodness at Loveland, 12/16/10

Haven't been on Epic in a while, so thought I'd share a little TR.

Loveland reported 6" in 24 hours, with only 2" overnight.  Noodler and I went searching for it and were amply rewarded with creamy pow, faceshots, and untracked lines.

10am: A full hour after the lifts started turning, the mountain was still pretty untracked...

Spot Noodler:

11am: Two hours after opening, we were beginning to cross more tracks...

11:30am: So we headed off to find some more freshies (Noodler coming down the middle, my tracks on looker's right)...

spindrift, when are you coming out to CO?

segbrown, it was your fault for not coming out! tongue.gif We might see you at Vail this coming week - if this storm pans out, it could be epic.

We were there yesterday. The trip took 2+ hours from Denver due to stoppages for avalanche control around the tunnel (US 6 was closed at the pass), so our early start got us there around 10:15....

Seemed to be around 6-12" of new snow with more coming down all the time. We went over and played in the chair 4 and 8 area for most of the morning. After lunch, the winds had picked up enough to make visibility especially above the treeline almost non-existant, so we stayed low and skied off chair 1. Great day, although our Eastern butts got kicked! (Excuse list-we're old, early season, high altitude, fairly heavy snow, poor visibility,blah,blah,blah......)

Plan is for Copper tomorrow, assuming we can get there!

According to the news out east, it was a disaster out there. Of course that's because they mention skiing maybe 5 times a year. Last year we had "Snowmaggedon" and "Snowpocalypse" . They don't bother to name storms that don't affect us though

Here's to your great disaster! smile.gif  Thanks for the fabulous photos.

Love the way the snow is peeling off the tip here:

It is of course very wrong to be having so much fun in snow while people are stranded for days in airports because of it...wink.gif

We are commiserating.  Here's Noodler drowning his sorrows along with his skis in some freshies yesterday at Breck:

With any luck I will be out 10-12 days in April 2011.  Happy Holidays!yahoo.gif

So, that looks like the bottom of the Boundry Chutes...

That's one of my favorite lines; usually filled with Pow 'cuz everyone goes skiers right.

^^^^^^  You would be correct sir. smile.gif

Honestly, this season has just absolutely spoiled us so much thus far.  I've never had so many powder days before Christmas.  I've broken all my personal records for:

  1. Number of faceshots in a day
  2. Number of faceshots in a run
  3. Number of untracked lines in a day

I already have 25 days in this season and 333K vertical feet skied.  That's way over my norm.

It has been quite delicious. Let's hope the rest of the season does not disappoint!
