I am trying my best to do things the right way in learning how to ski. Accordingly, I made a special visit to Sierra Jim last summer while visiting CA to get the proper boot. I finally got to try them today and while they did give me much better control than rental boots, they were killing the soles of my feet big time. I was in more agony than usual and though it did get better throughout the day it still was hurting pretty bad. Usually, it is my quads that give way but today I had to cut it short because my feet were killing me. In addition, on one of my feet, the top of the boot was cutting off circulation to my foot because they were way too tight of the top of my foot. I am not sure what that was about.
Jim did give me some superfeet foot beds, but they don't seem to be doing the trick. I asked around and surefoot was suggested as a place to get custom foot beds, however the reviews I have read here have been mixed. Also, their price is $215 which is $50 more than S. Jim charges.
In addition, my wife got some Solamon boots from Jim and her bunions are causing some serious pain. S.J. thought that would not be a problem, but it is, so I am looking for a solution for that, perhaps by somehow stretching the boot where her bunion is located.
Any input that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I am in Breckenridge (awesome resort) and am willing to go anywhere in the vicinity to be able to ski with some discomfort (normal) but no serious pain.
