Vail, Dec. 21st thru 29th - Page 2

Barry, I'll see you on the 25th.  Timing for me will depend on how late I'm out Christmas Eve but I'll be in touch via phone on my way up.  I've got a whole new look this year so keep your eyes out for white helmet (no pigtails), black jacket and teal pants.  Probably wearing a pack that day  I won't be skiing bell to bell since I coach the next day but looking forward to a few hours of fun with you and DS if he joins us.

ETA:  Ha! Got a call about 10 minutes after I posted this that my new boots are in.  I'll be making a detour stop in Frisco to pick them up, hoping my bindings only need minor adjustments and not a re-mount to accommodate the new boots (6mm boot sole length difference so we're not sure).  I'll give you a call when I'm approaching Vail.

Coskigirl, I'll see you whenever you arrive. Drive safe and fortune will take care of the rest.

I too am rockin' new duds. The Kid inherited my red jacket, (the only ski jacket that I've ever owned,) so I've got a nifty blue one made by the rather upper crust Kjus company. Picked it up at a steal during the annual Peter Glenn South Florida Winter Sports Show. Couldn't believe the MSRP on the jacket, and would not in fact consider spending that much on a piece of clothing, but it fits great, seems very warm and light, and I think that I received admiring glances on lift lines from women sporting fur-trimmed Bogner attire. Still got the same smile though, and the same number of teeth as I had last year. Should not be an issue.

If it's a deepish day, The Kid and I may well spend some time in the AM on the back side. We'll wait for you before heading out to Blue Sky, and I'll check my cell phone whenever we get to the top of #5, 17, or whatever lift brings us near the front.

I'll keep my skis waxed for your return Segbrown. Have a glorious time with your family.

Got to share some turns today with Stroller, along with her Dad, husband, and oldest girl. The young lady rips. Other than right at the bottom of the hill, everything at Vail skied just gloriously today.

So obviously we didn't make it over the pass today - ended up at Breck instead and found some good snow.

Next shot for an intersection with the Bazzer crew is the 28th.  That may actually work for a Vail trip, but as usual we'll be watching the weather.

Good thing that you didn't come west Noodler. As I understand, there was a severe accident on I 70 involving a truck laden with potentially explosive liquids that closed the road near Vail Pass for many, many hours. There was some chatter about the worst case scenario leading to a big crater where the highway used to be.

We should be back in fighting trim by the 28th. As of this AM, my legs feel like jello, and The Kid is quivering and moaning softly in his sleep.

The accident was actually at the tunnel, not on the pass.

Bazz,

Just read above about your fancy new jacket.    Combine that with those uber-cool Gotamas and you're really styling out there!

Hopefully you find some time to snap some photos in the next few days.   Always enjoy checking out your work.

You guys have a blast!

Have not broken out the Goats yet, so I'm only half rockin' my middle-age steeze. Holding off until we get a bunch of fresh for those fatties, and have been using my Mythics. They really seem to be a great all-around pair for the deep crud, soft bumps, and etc. that we've enjoyed for the past couple of days. Only wish that I were as good all-around as the sticks.

The Kid and I may get to take a lesson with VSP today. His class has been skiing hard and fast for the past week, and the two of us are approaching the day with at least a modicum of trepidation. Hey, if VSP does not kill us, we will emerge stronger. Excelsior.

That would be nice, 'cause Mr. Vertical may be around tomorrow, and I'd rather be breathing at the time of our meeting.

Save some of the good stuff for us.  We still plan on hooking up with you guys on Sunday.  I'll give you a call on Saturday night to make arrangements.

Way cool Roadrash.

Skied today with Vailsnowpro. Lots of bumps. Many trees. Soft snow. Big smiles. I'm tired.biggrin.gif

Is VSP going to join us Saturday? Pretty please?  With cherries on top?

I believe that VSP will be teaching, but it might be possible to cajole him into an apres brew. He does however really like cherries, or so I've heard.

Where the heck did you hear that I like cherries? For the record... I DO NOT like cherries!  Strawberries-YES, most other kinds of berries-YES, But cherries? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! I will not eat them in a box, I will not eat them with a fox. I do not like cherries, Sam I am!  (now, if you'd really like to know how I feel about cherries, put another dime in the machine!) But gummi bears or chocolate- now that's another story!  wink.gif

Had an awesome day skiing with Bazz and couple of others. Todays route-

Starting at the top of Ch2- Faro, up Ch7, Never Trees, up NEW Ch5, Milt's, up Ch17, Emperors Choice/ Sweet and Sour, up Ch37, Steep and Deep to Lower Iron Mask, up Ch39, HornSilver, up Ch21, lunch at Two Elk, then Rogers, up Ch11, Prima/ Pronto, up Ch11, blaster down Ramshorn, up Ch3, Minnies. Then it was time for cold adult beverages at Bart and Yeti's....

Not sure if Bazz can handle another day like today, but the other two guys will be back!

Bwahahahaha!  Well, I did just put some Sea Salt Almond Chocolate Bark in my pack for tomorrow.  VSP, if you can escape I'd love to see you tomorrow as well.

Hope that you have a big pack CoSkiGirl. VSP's got a healthy appetite, especially when chocolate is on the menu, and Merrydog may make the scene with some of her hungry companions as well.

Mr. Vertical and his youngest son took this old dog out for a walk in the woods today. Just grand, though Vertical Jr. may have grown a bit fidgety waiting on a pair of what he may perceive as a pair of cranky geezers. That young man slides with style.

Robyn-

0830, I'll be walking in past the gondy... 0900 I'll be riding up the gondy... 0930 I'll be at our staff meeting in the meeting area at the top of the gondy... 1000 I'll be heading out with the last couple of Level 9's that I haven't killed off this past week... Catch us and take a few runs with us!

Otherwise, maybe meet for a cold one after skiing at Bart and Yeti's. Any where along that timeline, it would be great to see you...

Happy Holidays!

Since I'm still playing with my new Macbook Pro at home I definitely won't make the early stuff.  We'll see what we can do Apres!

Enjoy the new laptop. Type fast and drive safe. Give a call when you're at the base and we'll take it from there. Baz Jr.'s going to leave the hill early. He's a Miami Heat fan and wants to catch their game against LA.

So how did Vail ski today?  Saw the 4" reported from last night.

Vail was just superb yesterday. It's the wee hours now, so I've only got a few hours to wait for the lifts to open again.ski.gif

Hope to see you Noodler, Brother Faisiy, and perhaps the Roadrash gang too. Now off to try and grab 40 winks. See you in bit.

Bazzer it was fantastic to ski with you Saturday and to meet Merrydog and JCSki (is that the right screen name?).  Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Bazzer it was great to ski with you last week.  I am back in Miami Beach (where is currently colder than Vail) missing the mountain.  I survived 6 great days of group lessons.

Bazzer,

I see your insomniac tendencies are still haunting you. We had a great time with you and COskigirl on Saturday, the lack of sleep certainly didn't slow you down. wink.gif

I hope to ski with you again soon in the new year!

Welcome to Epic southbeachski. Send me an email, and we'll see if we can't meet in Miami, eat some authentic Peruvian seafood, and lie to each other about how much our fearless bump skiing impressed Vailsnowpro.

Merrydog, I'll certainly post up any travel plans that I make here on the forums, and let you know if I'm coming back to Vail. If not this season, then I most sincerely hope to meet with you and JC-ski in the not too distant future. Only one question for you: Do you ALWAYS have that beautiful smile on your face?

CoSkiGirl, you know how much I enjoy your company and value your friendship. We'll hopefully be making turns together for may years. BTW, a little birdie told me that you might be back in Vail again tomorrow. Let me know if that is indeed the case. I'll post up a few of the rather mediocre images I've made when I've got the time to write up a trip report.

Tomorrow will be the last day of our stay, (assuming that our thursday afternoon flight is not canceled,) so The Kid and I have only to survive our encounter with the Roadrash gang, and perhaps enjoy a final meal with VSP before we head back to Miami, and what passes as the real world. Would of course be delighted to share a few turns with any other wandering Bears.

Well, by now you've figured out that I didn't make it up.  I'm sad that I missed another day with you Bazzer and missed meeting Roadrash and his family.  Unfortunately, I've a bit of a sore throat and with commitments the rest of the week I decided it better for me to camp on my sofa for the day napping and nursing than push myself into a full blow cold that takes me out for weeks.

Bazzer, Looking forward to seeing what you call mediocre images.  I have requests for pics of me in my new jacket over on SkiDiva so I hope you don't mind if I link to a couple of them.   I think you need to try to come out for the Gathering.  You know you want to.  Just tell Bazzer Jr. that he's going to Tulane...   (Kidding, of course!)

Roadrash, hopefully next year will work out.  I woke up this morning at 7 and tried to convince myself that I was okay and should just go but the first drink of water told me no.  I hope you've enjoyed your trip!

The smile is an automatic whenever I'm having a blast with friends on the mountain.tongue.gif
