What makes an AT binding?

This is a dumb question but what is the difference between and AT binding and an alpine binding. I feel very dumb for not knowing this. I have done a search and can not seem to find the answer

Seriously?  Your google-fu is weak.  AT bindings allow you to lift your heel off the ski so that you can stride when touring.  Also allow you to lock your heel down for skiing downhill.
