Just sort of stumbled across this site a couple weeks ago and have learned quite a bit so thank you for all those great threads,
But here is my dilemma...
So I moved to Golden recently and will be skiing Kicking Horse all winter as well as hoping to hit up as many of the other places around as I can afford. That being said I can only afford to buy one pair of skis. So I did a little homework and decided the Salomon Shoguns would be a good choice for where ill be. I demod both the 173's and the 182's and I'm stuck.
Just a bit about me... Not sure what you would deem my skiing ability, maybe intermediate? Im about 5'10, 160lbs. I can somewhat comfortably run the single blacks at kicking horse. Powder is sort of a new concept to me as I'm from Southern Ontario. Haven't skied with other skiers to much and have pretty much taught myself to ski. So in my opinion I have terrible technique/ a lot to learn but I can't wait :). So this winter for me is all about having fun, and not only improving my skiing ability but also getting down to the basics which I was never really taught.
The 173's felt great, and at first I thought their was no way I could handle anything longer as they were the longest skis I had used to date. But after being on them for half a day I switched to the 182's the next day from the recommendation from the guys selling the skis. At first I thought no way, it's just to much ski for me. But every run I became a little bit more comfortable, things became a little bit easier.
My question is would the 173's sufficient for me? What would I really be gaining from the 182's? My thoughts are that I would enjoy the 173's more in the beginning, but 2 months into the season would I be wishing I had bought the 182's? I dont want to buy skis that I will outgrow, but I also dont want to buy skis that have added length that I dont really need.
