Ski length... personal decision.

What size ski should i buy? I know this is a question that gets asked a great deal, but I would appreciate some opinions. I have already learned much from these forums. I am around 6'1", 200lb, skiing groomed runs in Europe. I am looking at the Salomon 24 gt pro in a 172. Would I be better off with a 165? Is the ski a good choice? I am 29 and have never raced, and only ski 1-2 weeks a year, if I am lucky, but as a former athlete, I like to push my ability. I look forward to reading your words of wisdom.

172 minimum

I do not know this ski but even 172 is too short.  At least the next size up; one rule of thumb (there are others) is somewhere between your nose and forehead.

I agree with this.  I'd accept from my lips to top of my head depending what I'm using it for, but somewhere around the eyes seems to work great.

172 might be the longest it comes in.  It's a short radius carver built to a price point.  I'm guessing you could do better.

Thank you all for your replies. Very helpful. I will be buying in the next couple of days and now think I have a much better idea of what I am looking for. I'll know if I'm right once I hit the piste! Thanks again, I will let you know what I decide on and how it goes.
