I think I'm going to take Terry's Idea here and Dumb it down a bit further.
No matter the person buying the ski's at the demo day. Who actually researches the ski before they go?
To bad I don't have experience as a rep to have a baseline on purchases to demos.
This is what I think the biggest problem with demos are.
People do not research the product before they go. They don't have an idea of what they want.
The other problem is, if they don't have the ski in the exact size they want, they throw a fit.
And finally, people don't have enough knowledge with ski's to know what size would be best for them. They are just shooting at the breeze.
A better fitted ski might increase your skill level by challenging you, or opening up new things.
Kinda like boots! Oh no! I didn't!
Before a Demo Day. Research the product.
Talk to the Rep if you can. Request something that your interested in.
as for ski shops not setting up bindings on ski's. I don't blame them.
The percentage of people trying and not buying is probably not worth it, especially for a 600+$ ski.
Terry, The whole idea with using removable bindings. I thought about that one.
I love my rail flex bindings, but it would just be so much of a pain to constantly remove and re-adjust them.
The flip side of this is, for any rep who is using these style of bindings. You should probably take that part of the binding off on less demo'd skis.
Again, it all comes down to making money.
If a rep brought out 20 ski's. and 8 were womens and 12 were mens. He sold all 12 mens ski's, and had people wanting to buy more, and only sold 2 womens ski's, .....
Yeah. Like I said, If I could make money demoing Womens ski's only. I'll do it.
The only problem is, all these companies are going to want me to drop huge money on product I am not sure if i'm going to sell.
