Not a good day for photos, but a nice afternoon of skiing. Didn't see anyone from the ESA while on the slopes, but may have caught a glimpse of Bob Barnes from my seat in the bar as he came off the mountain.
Another good day at an empty ski resort in Summit County Colorado!
After a nice lunch at the Red Mountain Grill in Dillon, got to A-Basin in time to take a warm-up run before meeting a friend at the Pali lift at 1 pm. For those of you not familiar with the Legend, Pali offers some of their steeper terrain and is usually not open until much later in the season.
Although there was no new snow being reports, skier traffic appears to have been so light this week that there was still quite a bit of soft snow to be found. Soft moguls and packed powder groomers were readily available.
Coverage on most of the mountain was very good, except for some spots with the bigger rocks and tree stumps off Pali. They don't make snow in this area and the terrain really requires a very deep base for complete coverage. Things were still super fun in this area, but there were definitely spots were you had to be careful.
Away from Pali, the rest of the mountain skied great although they have still not opened the (relatively new) back side (Montezuma) or the hike to terrain. Considering it is only early December, it is amazing how much they do have open.
For Apre-ski, on Fridays they offer $1.50 soft tacos (pork and chicken) as well as free music in the bar area at the base.
