just wondering...am here in cascades...cypress mtn...mostly for onpiste, night skiing when I need good edge grip as temps lower.

have been offered both for about $250ish with 79c waist and similar 120 mm shovel (legend 8000 is the orange 2005 model) and blk diamond machine is 2009 model)..also was offered '09 contact 4x4 in 172 but IMO 'tis a bit too long  (i'm 167cm tall / 5'6")...sure for a powder ski I'lll go longer, but for groomers and icy night sking (2x/wk night skiing) I want a shorter more edge proficient ski.

tried doing some reviews on blk diamond machine on here, but no luck (unless i'm blind)

what length on the 8000?  also the price seems a bit high for a 2005 ski.  I picked up a pair of 8000 in a 172 last year for $80.  I probably wouldn't pay more than $120 for some.  They are a great ski.  I had to remount the binding as it was a bit  to far back but after that the ski was a blast.  super stable and as quick as I wanted it to be.  even decent in the powder if you know how to really ski powder.

I would not characterize the 8000 as a great carver but fairly capable with tuned edges on hard pack. Not so much on icy, firmer surfaces. You'd be better off with the Contacts.

let's see. black diamond has been making skis (in their name) for what, 6 or 8 years or so. Dynastar for maybe 50 +. who would know more about making a ski that does what you need somewhere in the line.
