As the title indicates...how come this race isn't available to watch online as part of the season package we paid for?  Schedule shows the Womens races up at Lake Louise at the same time are, but where's the mens?

So it IS going to be broadcast on Universal Sports...they just don't know when yet?  Is that because it overlaps with the Womens Lake Louise race?

NBC has first broadcast rights for this event.

I think NBC owns Universal.  The Birds of Play downhill is one of the only ski events (outside of the Olympics) that typically gets network coverage (on NBC).

My default way to watch sports live is www.fromsport.com .  They hijack links from everywhere and for everything including MMA, boxing, soccer, etc.  NBC destroyed the Olympic coverage, but at least I could watch it live from this site.  You can get live results, but not coverage, from the FIS site.

Don't think so. Last year they were posting M & W events without the commentor dubbing live. The version with commentary was posted later that day.

This year seems to be the year where NBC Universal has decided to wring the pockets of the fan base they built over the past few years: all of the live online broadcasts and on-demand streams are now subscription-only, and the TV broadcast is delayed until after the race is completed to allow for small edits.  I'm saddened by this, though not surprised.

So we'll see the sliced-and-diced coverage from Beaver Creek and Aspen on NBC (i.e. show a few of the top Europeans and some of the U.S. racers) with a lot of insipid commentary and a ton of commercials, with US getting the broadcast rights sometime in a couple of weeks, where the race will be shunted to some weird broadcast hour.  In a word: pathetic.

Frankly, I've been seeking streams from EuroSport and other broadcasters, where the coverage is live.  I don't really care whether there is commentary - I simply want to see the races, and am on a budget where, given the choice between spending on the US subscription or saving for a ski trip or three, I'll choose the latter (and I'm a huge ski racing fan).

NBC stands for "Nonexistent Broadcast Coverage."

There are already a few threads on this subject:

How much does NBC suck, let us count the ways.....

Focus on the games NBC!! Human interest stories can be broadcast anytime - I guess commercials are...

NBC truly sucks

Why on earth would anyone want to see the downhill live? I'd rather watch 46 US hockey games (all...

Why does NBC Olympic coverage suck so much?

So, I spent the 1st week of the Olympics watching the NBC coverage at home in Oregon. Second week,...

Does NBC's coverage--or lack thereof-- violate the Olympic spirit?

I too am very disappointed in NBC's coverage...not that I expected anything better. Think of NBC's...

This is a little late for today's races, but in my search for coverage of Aspen (there's no Canadian-accessible broadcast OR legal streaming available icon13.gif), I found MyP2P.eu. I was able to watch re-streamed UK Eurosport coverage of the 2nd GS run. They offered a couple different options, one of which died half-way through, but the second picked up. Both were decent quality, not awesome HD, but perfectly watchable. Looks like it's going to be my go-to site for anything not available via CBC or Sportsnet this season.

Wow so there is no way in the immediate future to watch the entire races from Aspen or Beaver Creek?  WTH did I pay for the "Season Package" from Universal Sports for then?  I'm watching the Lake Louise downhill right now, but was hoping for some GS afterwords.  I'm just SOL I guess?

If there was an audience for that crap it would be on TV.

I'm pretty sure I saw more of today's event on Universal Sports broadcast than anyone who was actually there (unless they watched it on TV later).

I just wrote them asking for a refund.

The Aspen race is on NBC tomorrow.

There was; I watched from Whistler. It was truly terrible coverage, though (they never even bothered with anyone that didn't finish top 10, and never discussed anyone who DNF the first run. I still have no idea where Maria Reisch was in the GS, they never mentioned her). It was a Canadian sports channel I'd never heard of.

This thread is from last year.

LOL was reading through and thought this was about this year.  Same exact problem this year.

Beaver Creek DH was yesterday, it won't be aired for more than two weeks, december 18th.

on another note, whoever is announcing the LL DH, just said that a women's center of mass is "in their womb, in their hips".... just found that amusing.  her womb. really?

Also,

can anyone get full quality out of the online streaming?  If you go fullscreen and mouse-over the button next to the volume control that looks like your cellphone signal bars, it pops up with "Video Quality:  Current 1.6 Mbit/s, Max, 3.5 Mbit/s"

1.6 is about the max I've seen on the WC events.  I have Verizon FIOS, a 25 Mbit/s connection so that is clearly not the problem.  I'm guessing the max is more general and only seen in their more major broadcasts.

That's actually incorrect.  According to UniversalSports.com TV Viewing Guide it won't be on for 2 weeks.  According to my AT & T U-Verse Guide....It's going to be on tomorrow at like 10 AM.  Set to record.

On the same note....the Women's GS from Aspen was supposed to be on NBC last week....November 27th....and it wasn't.  Supposed to be on again tomorrow along with the Slalom on "Versus" channel.  I looked ahead on the Guide....it's not.
