Occurs to me that many of us take major annual N.A. ski trips, often traveling west, and for one reason or another may be limited to one ski. (I usually take a couple, but if the family's along, or I'm combining skiing with professional, gotta go with one to reduce the total load/weirdness at showing up at a conference with two large ski bags.) Now assume that these trips will be in search of pow, which may or may not materialize. Also assume that part of the time you're gonna be on groomers because that's what some other friends/family members prefer, and part of the time sidebounds or backside because that what's you and some other friends/family prefer. OK, what's the one ski you take? And how's it setup?
For me, it's tended to me Mantras or MX88's, both with alpine setups. Mantras are pretty much over, though, and MX88's are a bit heavy and narrow for sidebounds. So in my ideal world, there's a 100-110 ski out there that can give better float for pow stashes, but still deal with the inevitable groomers and possibly even (gasp) ice. In other words, no you can't just dump your friends or wife/kids and go off touring for the day.
