Safety and rescue work is done by people who, by definition, will sometimes put their life in jeopardy.  We should never take for granted the people who make up the NSP, Coast Guard, local volunteer ambulance dept, etc.  This is a sad day.

Just saw this on MSNBC's morning news. Sad news indeed.

Wolf Creek is my home mountain, the whole town is in shock. It just doesn't seem real yet, but the community is really pulling together through this tough time.

This was awful news.  I can't imagine the hurt and pain experienced by the Kay family ... Chantelle and children have my deepest sympathy and prayers.

I've been to Wolf Creek several times and am actually headed there this coming Friday.

Does anyone know the general area Scott was in when the avalanche slid?

In case you cannot tell from the map, if you get off at the top of the main lift from the lodge (Alberta Lift) and go left at the top (facing uphill) you can take a high traverse along the ridge that is pretty flat for a bit as it heads towards Alberta Peak.  You are in the Glory Hole when you drop off that ridge where the traverse starts to go downhill a little.  It is part of the wide open bowl above the lower road heading the same direction.

I think you mean Treasure Lift.  Alberta lift is Further east near Knife Ridge.

Really sad news.  You can't believe how many patrol have had close calls.  Nearly happened to me once.

The next time the patrol are roping off the powder, and trying to stop poachers go easy on them.  They've seen to many days like this.
