Help! I am wanting to buy new skiis for my 13 year old son. He is about 100 lbs. 5'3" and became an expert skiier last year with rentals. What length should I get and what skiis should I look at used or new?
Thanks for any help!
It's all based upon budget and how much he skis. I think new is best, but new doesn't have to mean 2010-2011 year skis. Some places online like Evo and Al's Ski Barn have some great deals on last year's or even the year befores skis. Based upon what you said about your son, normal ski length rules apply--look at nose to eye height depending upon the ski type. I guess this will be about a 150cm ski, but that's not hard and fast and the ski you want probably only comes in 5-10cm increments. My 12-year old son who is about the same size skis 145s and 148s. You also might want to look at adult skis, but unless they are womens, they will probably be too stiff for his weight.
Most important thing though is getting him new boots, if he doesn't already have his own. Skis are secondary to boots for him to really improve and enjoy the skiing.
