so what is every ones take with assessing the movement patterns of your students on camber vs. hybrid camber equipment???
We're not yet been seeing a lot of cambered rides of any type at Whitetail. The only movement patterns I'd expect on those boards at our resort is rail slides. With the hybrid cambered boards, I expect to see a little friendlier edge engagement for dynamic carved turns. Other than that I don't expect the movement patterns to differ much.
It depends in part on the specific board ... how much and what type of rocker and what type of MTX or similar sidecut mod. Rocker = looser, for good and bad. Not as good for tracking straight; also more demanding on landings. Even more emphasis on quiet upper body. Aggressive mtx = if they are having the shovel bite and losing the tail a bit, it may in part be the sidecut, not just them...but a lot of boards have backed off on the aggressiveness of MTX now. That doesn't contradict what Rusty said re: friendlier edge engagement, he's right in general on that.
Excellent topic to think about. Right now I'm trying to get back in focus in general. It was busy over Thanksgiving due to the unbelievable snow conditions. Almost everything is open. Only the chutes are closed.
As a long time snowboarder I have found the whole rocker explosion as baffling as the glacial pace of adaption of Magnatraction and similar edge pressure enhancements.
I love the insane edge hold Mag produces. Riding in the South East(N.C) we encounter Slabs of ice you could ice skate on. Mag has been a real game changer.
The Lib skate banana I tried last season offered no positive attributes to my riding experience at all! No energy,no speed,no ollie, no stable high speed carves.
Now we have the Hybrid C2,camber with rocker. I just put in my first day of the season on a 157 Travis Rice. While the board does not pop like straight camber it does have the
stability, and turning of a camber board with a better than plain camber turning and plowing through powder and chop.
I am genuinely interested to see where this will all shake out. I would like to see a form of mag on all boards and skis. I also think there is a compelling case for raised base boards.(Omatic,Battalion) and rocker in several different forms is here to stay it appears.
