Well according to many here, they can't be on rockers 'cause they only float on top of the snow....

OK, yeah, looks like all 3 are on Czars, looks like last seasons  Keep in mind these guys could ski like this on almost any ski...

It has a lot to do with the snow too.  The first "big" dump last February at Vail, the snow was sooo light and fluffy that no matter what skis you were on, you sank through to the ice that was a foot below.  A foot of fresh powder, yet you could hear everyone scraping below it.  It was so light that I would go into it just off the catwalks and it didn't slow me down at all.  That stuff got packed down and it snowed all night, and the next day it was beautiful.  Nice and floaty.  I would love to pick up a Czar, though.  It's a cheap version of the PM Gear Lhasa Pow, essentially.

That was pretty cool.  Hey those guys were in the backseat a lot! :-)   It must be nice to be rich.  I will say they are huge risk takers for sure.  I am in awe of their nerve, and skill.   One bummer move in those trees, and well...........The End.

^^^Seriously?  I was thinking how much I'd love to ski those lines with almost no risk of injury cause there's just tons of snow everywhere... I'm in awe of their skill and apparent lack of effort too, but with the exception of the giant huck towards the end and ALL of the flips/spins, I'm not sure there's anything there I wouldn't try with that much snow on the ground and no tracks.  Sure you don't want to hit the trees, but that's why you make turns.  In your defense, make a wrong turn and end up in one of those nasty tree wells and you'd be in some trouble.

backseat? on the pillows they are actually keeping the body level & upright and making contact on the heel & back so they can just "skip' or bg down the line, you don't want to land forward on the ski. There's no time or space to land on the front or even the center of the ski. Also, you can use a the tail on a rockered ski like a brake to scrub speed by just digging the tails in. In general you don't ski rockers by driving the tips, you ski them centered. These guys are hardly rich monitarilly BTW. I am sure they do OK with endorsements and movies but 'rich" is one of those "what's rich"?  kind of things....

Those gentlemen are really rich, even if they don't have a dime to their name.

I saw this the other day on Skimag.com and started drooling from all the powder that had.

Any one know how much it costs to go to Mica?

The thing is, there is always a chance that something is under the surface.  That something could get you.  Not that I, or anyone else is a pansy, it's just insane the way they are skiing is insane.  Again my hats off to those dudes.

Oh, I'm glad you said that, because now I don't feel like a backseat skier anymore! :-)   I think all those same things must happen on a salmon ski too.   The rich comment was more a joke in a way.  Just "a bit jelous".  If you want to Helli ski you must be very committed to the task.  I'm not sure I have the nuts for that myself, let alone the bucks.  No offense to those who do.  I love to see their videos!  Be good.

FOrkin' awesome, Finn!  I had to get my son to watch this one the second time.  The way they are bouncing along, looking so smooth at high speed, just mesmerizing.  I dug the song too.  Glad they put a few digger clips in there, just so you know they are human.  There was one in there that looked & sounded like it hurt - landing on rocks, hearing the scrape.

So if I got chartruse pants, maybe I could ski like that?

That was great.

I don't understand the film crew setup. MSP was with these guys at this time but the clips they showed in the movie sucked while these rocked.

I vaguely remember clicking Play, and then I must have gone into ski shock. I saw flashes of cotton balls, trees, and floating gnomes, and the next thing I know, I'm hitting the Join Now button.

Oh my.

My oh my.

Field Productions out of Norway was on this Mica trip and you can see more of Abma/Douglas/Winstedt in their new movie "Side by Side". MSP did not film this trip.

Hmm, you sound like you are "in the know" here. Please tell us more if you can.  The shots were awesome and I know there are many who would love to see the "making of" this footage

Have always loved "pillow" lines, though now at 55 I just enjoy skirting them.

My first experience with them was at J-Hole back when I was 35, in peak condition, and with my buddy who had trained with me for months at Gold's Gym in Cherry Hill, NJ. Bob Peters knows the field I'm talking about. I'm not talking 6, 7 or 8 boulders in a stack, but 70 or 80 of them.  Extremely demanding!!!

The rest of our crew had showed up in just "regular" condition, we never saw them on the pillows. It does take great commitment and strength to nail a line and survive it. Those pillows tend to be 8-15 foot drops, so if you like your teeth in your mouth, you better be on your heels!!!

Finndog is right about the aging skier that can, live in the moment. I like what the kids are attempting, the gear does make it easier, but I don't envy them one bit. I would not change a thing. Whether I get 10 days on the snow in a "bad" season, or 55 days, I wouldn't trade it for anything, that's what keeps it interesting for me. Hope, hope of dreamy POW!!!

As far as Heli vids that you see like this one, it's nice to have sponsors and a nice little LLC so you can do the American thang......write it off against income!!!

...and I thought the trailer for Out of the Shadows was amazing.  If I sell my house now I can spend the winter there.

Read about it on Field's blog I think, or maybe Mike Douglas' twitter last year. You should be able to buy Side by Side from various online retailers pretty soon in North America, I think this week or next.

bump...because Vail is about to look like that if the storm I just drove through in Rifle hits the Rockies with the same force it hit Rifle.  Lightning, rain, 50 mph winds, hail, sometimes all at the same time.  Going back up tomorrow, hopefully it looks like Micah by Thursday.
