How to determine good ski pants?

Thread Starter

Hi everyone,

Another question. What qualities determine good ski pants? This season I will be skiing everything from park to powder.

What would be a minimum for waterproof/breathability? What are some good brands for ski pants?

Also, do you put layers underneath the main pants, if so what?

Must have:

  1. They fit and allow adequate range of motion (when layered)
  2. Wind Proof (or highly wind resistant)
  3. Breathable (or have good vents)

Would be nice

  1. Waterproof
  2. Reinforcements at the cuff and generally durable fabric

  3. Ankle Cuffs to prevent snow infiltration

Optional:

  1. Adequate pockets (whatever this means to you)
  2. Steeze
  3. Insualtion
  4. Full side zips

We know they saved Chaos' life.

How important do you find full separating side zips?
Looking at getting the Westcomb Revenant bib where the zippers end at the waist.

Butt stays dry on a snow or ice coated lift, but isn't really slick in an icy seat either.

Comes with a good super elastic waistband, belt, or suspenders-- don't see that much anymore.

BIG snaps that don't pop open on their own.

Pleated front pockets, back pocket for wallet.

D-ring for lift tickets

Gators under cuffs for boots

Leather (not vinyl) patches where skis hit them.

Less than fifty bucks!

Unless you need to take your pants off without removing your boots, they're not important at all.
