Need advice 168 or 173 ?

Allo I sold my Salomon X Wing tornado 2008 170CM

Radius(m): 170/14.5

Sidecut: 124-75-107

I’m 5’9’’ 165 East coast Advanced/expert skier.

I have a powder ski K2 Obsethed 179.

I ski on-piste 60%, bump20% and off-piste 20%. I'm an advanced/expert ability level and tend to be overly aggressive. I prefer stiff ski. I demoed and really like the Nordica Nitrous TI 170cm.

I hesitate between the Tornado TI

- 166CM (120-78-106 radius 15.6);

- and 173CM (120-79-107 radius 16.3) ?

I've skied an earlier Tornado, am 162 lbs, have a hunch you'd prefer the 173. It's a light, responsive ski, and if you're actually aggressive (is there any male skier under 60 who does not think they are aggressive?) you'll want the length. Curious, though, why you don't buy the Nitrous in 170 if you liked it so much. Better deal on the Sollies?

I bought the K2 last year. Buying two new pair of ski was no accepted by the federal reserve of the house (wife) ha!ha!

I sold the salomon and tried to find the Nitrous TI with no luck and I have a great deal on the salomon.

The Nitrous and Tornado are quite different. I would also suggest that you buy the ski you really liked. Demoing something, finding that you really like it, then buying something else seems silly.

I bought the K2 at the same period so I was not on the market for a second pair of ski. Recently, I tried to find the Nordica Nitrous ti with no luck.

I like the tornado 08 and i'm sure I will like the newer model..

If you like the Hot Rod Nitrous in a 170 you will love the Vokl AC30 in the same 170 length.  The Hot Rod Nitrous in 170 is my previous ski. and I really liked them for the first 2 1/2 seasons.  Then  I made the mistake of demo'ing a pair of the AC30's off a demo truck at a local resort.  After 2 runs, I was thinking of who I could sell the Hot Rods to so I could by the AC30's.  They were that good to me.  I did dump them off on a friend and got the 30's just in time for a trip to Whitefish and Fernie.  I loved them just as much out west as I do here in the east.

I am 5'9" and 195lb and ski hard and aggressively for the old guy (55) that I am.

Good Luck,

Yes, I did try the AC50 when I was at Mt Bachelor 2 years ago also in a 170.  I had a love hate relationship with them.  Loved them up top when it was steep or rough.  Loved them on high speed black diamond groomers.  Hated them towards the bottom when you start to have trails merging and you needed to ski at a slower speed.  They just plain did not want to ski slow!  I think they are so stiff that you need to have a lot of energy to bend them into a carve, which is why I loved them at the higher speeds and on technical  turns in tight places as they are quick edge to edge, provided of course you are flying at mach 12.  I found the 30's to be a more versatile ski and quite a bit more forgiving which is a good think for an old fart like me.  I also liked the softer 30's more in the bumps which I still ski reguarly.  The 30 still has very impressive edge hold so I wouldn't worry about them on eastern hardpack.

Good luck.

Finally choose the Volkl AC30 2011. smile.gif

You will love them.  The 2nd time I demo'd the 30 before buying, a buddy of mine also tried it among others, it was his favorite of the bunch as well.  It killed him to admit it as he is a diehard Head fan.  LOL

Pray for some snow so that you can try out those puppies.
