Hi, I'm new to the site and am feeling overwhelmed. I am wondering if a Volkl Racetiger 155cm is a good choice for a 114 lb. 5' 6" girl who is joining her high school ski team. Is this "too much ski" for a kid that light? Thanks for any advice.
Race skis for 16 yr old girl
I would say both SL and GS (Don't know if they do GS in NH at High School level, but I'm not buying 2 pair). She has never officially raced before, but she's a fast, aggressive skier on any terrain. Example: White Heat at Sunday River- like butter.
Thanks for the reply!

I think the Racetiger in a 155 cm length is a SL ski, with a 12 m radius.
This would be a bit long for someone just starting to race SL, even with solid fundamental skiing skills.
It would be too short (and too short a turning radius) for GS.
It's not a good idea to try to use a single ski for GS and SL. If you really don't want two pairs of skis, pick one event and get the right ski for that event.
Having said that, some high school programs are really working at an introductory level, and courses are set as something we occasionally call "glalom," which would be 16-18 m gates. A JR GS ski or a recreational performance ski around the 17m radius range, 160 to 170 cm length will get the kids off to a decent start.
Talk to the program coaches/co-ordinators to see what fits.
