I am now unable to get a curser inthe reply box at the bottom of threads.  I can click around in the tool bar itema above it, but can't type anything in the box below.  I guess FF 3.6.10 is tore up from the floor up when working with this platform..

But, if I quote another post I CAN navigate the cursor to the text area and type a reply like I'm doing right now with Firefox.  I've tried on two different machines, one running XP and one running Win7.

I have had a similar problem at time and also use firefox (mostly).  Now problem just now, but at time the cursor is in the reply window but invisible.

Hey 30, you fixed it.  It's working with my FF now

I'm told there is a bug in the Firefox version 10, I have all kinds of problems losing the cursor, trying to move the cursor around in the edit box, and it generally just makes ME a cursor.

It is behavior I only see in this forum, so I hear your pain.

There's a FF 4.o.x beta out, try that one.  I've downloaded it, no problems yet, but didn't have any with .10 either.  http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/

....Edit follow up.  Stopped using it.  Lots of video issues, initially just font displays, then my driver stopped responding, not worth it at all.

Now you tell me.  I just installed it.

Well, it doesn't uninstall .10.  Thank goodness.

yeah, I restored my older 3.10 whatever version.  None of the add-ons worked with the beta.

I (used to) see it elsewhere, including gmail.

FF 3.6.10 is a dog. I've never had so many problems with FF. I've lost count of how many times it's crashed, dozens so far, sometimes after only being open for a few minutes. There is also the fact that the longer it is open, the more memory it uses; often the cursor disappears and the words I've typed don't appear for a couple seconds, then I check Task Manager to find it's using up crazy huge memory, once I looked and it was using well over a million K!

All the previous versions were excellent, it seems they got a bit overambitious with this one.

I think you can remove it and go back to an earlier version.  When I was hunting for the beta, I came across a pre.10 version available for download.  I don't have problems normally (I had them once...)

I found the Cursor problem in FF as well.  However it's not as annoying as the Freezing IE I was having before it.

Now that I have .11, there is no sign of the cursor in the reply box.  You have to trust that you are in the box and then start typing.  Also found out I could only go back and correct by going into source mode.  ff 3.6.11, win 7 64 bit.   Just tried to hit the return twice and start a new paragraph and couldn't.  It just started typing at the end of the last sentence.

*** I have that issue occasionally too and it started before version 11.  I can usually get it working by reloading the page.

Just got this error backing out of the new "Helmets" thread in Ski Gear.

And, it won't let me put the curser below the message I just pasted below:

A PHP Error was encountered

Severity: Notice

Message: Memcache::get() [memcache.get]: Server 10.16.50.130 (tcp 11211) failed with: Connection refused (111)

Filename: common/class-huddlermemcache.php

But I can type in this box, just not below it

Yikes! I haven't had those problems since loading the newest Firefox, and I even took it through a few tests. I'll alert the team.

Seems like sometimes a page doesn't load perfectly.  I'm seeing some weird stuff on Facebook  with FF 3.6.11 today too.  Think I'll reboot

Okay, in addition to being unable to see my cursor in the latest FF and being unable to start new paragraphs without going into source mode, now I have a new issue.  I tried to click on someone's name to send them a PM.  No problem there, I got the pop up PM window and started typing.  However, when I tried to post a link, the cursor didn't go to the field in the link pop up screen, it went to the user name field of the person I was sending the PM to.  I could not fill in the field I needed to fill in and ended up just typing the link in and telling them they'd have to retype it themselves, as I couldn't make it "clickable".  FF is really driving me nuts since the new upgrade!!!

Well, they've fixed the cursor problem, but not the PM problem.  Plus, after I tested the PM problem in the middle of typing a post that I couldn't send, it told me nothing was written in the editor here.  Did not matter if it was normal mode or source mode, kept telling me I'd typed nothing.  Went to Preview and the box was empty and I had to retype this (should have copied it to the clipboard before I tried Preview...dumb).

I got the dreaded disappearing cursor using Firefox 3.6.12 in Gmail today. Switched back to Safari.

I've noticed that in Firefox, the cursor is usually present for a split second before the menu strip of the reply box shows up.  Hope that helps.  Also, after the cursor disappears, you have no ability to hit returns for a new paragraph.  I tried using the BB editor, but it's irritating in terms of my flow of thought to have to resort to that.  I can use a Rich Text Editor on other vBulletin-based boards without this issue.  It's only on Epic that it is an issue.

I'll ask if there's been any progress understanding this issue.

3.6.12. Whenever I click outside of the box, it moves the cursor to the very front of the message and doesn't let me edit whatever I've typed before leaving the reply box. Also, it appears that Carriage Returns don't work.

Yeah, I'm having a hell of a time with responding to posts in FF

I will add that I have this problem in Private Messages as well. The behavior commonly occurs when using the mouse to move to different parts of the message to edit.  The cursor disappears and edits occur in the beginning of the message.  Going to source code works to correct it, but you need to manually insert breaks.  Outside of source code, the editor inserts paragraph and spaces rather than breaks. "<p>:&nbsp "  Still no way to get the cursor to follow quotes other than in source, or by adding breaks, then cutting and pasting the quote above.

If the Editor could be coded to automatically add a couple breaks and paragraph notation after a quote, this problem should go away.  In other words the after the quote add <p><br><br>

Here's what I have learned. Our technical team is aware that the CK editor and Firefox are not cooperating and the team is actively working to resolve these issues. Until we get this resolved, we can offer two options to work around the issue:

1. Try a different browser. We do not have these issues in Chrome, Safari, IE, etc.

2. Switch to the Basic BB editor (My Profile, Account Settings) to eliminate the problem (though you will lose some of the functions of the CK editor)

I can put up with them and do the workaround as long as someone is actually working trying to fix it.

Don't hold your breath.

I recall reporting this in detail sometime in the summer. Since then they've continued to develop many 'new features' and even just introduced brand new Chat-Room capability. Doesn't look like fixing the editor is on the priority list. mad.gif

That's what worries me as well.  A chat room that there has been no demand for?  And I'm a broken record (yes, I know that shows me as being old to even use the expression) about the Mark Posts Read button that we had on this platform and then disappeared during an "upgrade".  Just to demonstrate there was no need for a Chat Room, no one is ever there unless there is an "event".  While the bugs don't get addressed.

We have a team of engineers. Not all work on the same thing at once. I have been assured that the editor is a big concern -- which is why we have a BB editor to pick up the slack while the compatibility with Firefox issues are addressed by some members of the team. Sibhusky, I understand that the mark posts read button is a concern. I'll ask if we can't get that done in the next release. It has been a long time coming.
