just wondering how many of you (even the very seasoned pros) still take lessons for ongoing refinement in your technique?
Personally I love taking lessons and getting feedback and support, esp given I was away from skiing for so long.
after a 20 yr hiatus i just got back seriously into skiing again last yr (was a great distraction from a bad breakup while also learning a new skill and being able to enjoy the outdoors and travel...plus I've always wanted to really get into skiing, even 20 yrs ago, when I was living in Toronto, so now having this great terrain all around here in Vancouver BC just makes that dream a reality).... i took lots of lessons too, mainly because 1/ the ski club i joined is most of more advanced skiers who just FLY down blues and blacks and 2/ to improve my technique.
so i got out last yr 30x..and to have both company and get feedback on my technique I took lots of group lessons at whistler (their ski esprit as well as a number group lessons (both at whistler and at most resorts I visited)..
.and I gave my '' pound of flesh '' too: right fractured rib with one bad fall, an actual broken rib under left chestplate on other bad fall
landing BOTH times on my ski pole (at least I think so: tumbles happen SO quickly don't they)
(but not only was conditioning & technique lacking but also my skis --
'07 head monster m77--were too stiff and narrow waisted for the wide varieties of conditions/weather I often encountered at Whistler
by mid/end of last season I was being placed in blue & advanced blue ("black lite'' ) groups
my goal this year: get out 35-50x and to be a competent intermediate that can ski all terrain as, well as solid intermediate. (too much to ask?)
for any seasoned Whistler skiers who've taken programs such as Dave Murray and Club Linc :
I just phoned Whistler's ski school and spoke with their GM (Bart) ...discussed Dave Murray program (3 day)...then he mentioned
'Club Linc' as an alternative that cost $679 as an add on to a pass (see link below) and you ski with the same group of people (40 max allowed) meet each Sat all day
20x...he says it's VERY popular and a great way to make new ski buddies of similar ability and also get great instruction
from someone who gets to really know your style...I just might post separately on this as we get closer to ski season when more whistler people will
be on here, to get their feedback.
Whistler lesson ''add ons'' are here
...so am unsure at this pointand number crunching...
might have to stay local and ski the BC interior if I'm going to cough up more $$ for 15 or unlimited season's pass and a 'club linc' add -on.
