Epicski - Internet Explorer (Not Responding)

Anybody else having this problem the last few days?  I got a new computer about a month ago...Compaq, Windows 7(64) and IE8.  The last few days, everytime I come to Epicski, and only Epicski, the site and internet explorer freeze several times before it actually becomes functional and navigateable.  I get the "Not Responding" txt in the upper left, and a "Waiting for http://adspub.g.click...... or something to that effect in the lower left during each freeze.  It's becoming really annoying and almost makes me want to stop coming here.  Any ideas what's causing this?  New Ad on the screen somewhere?

As a systems admin I recommend not using IE.  It's very prone to security issues and their broken implementations of internet standards have essentially left users out in the cold wondering why pages don't render or work properly.  IE9 has a glimmer of hope as to being capable of handling webiste standards as defined and used by every other major browser company(safari, chrome, firefox), but the problem is that even with their MS's new technolgy, as soon as IE9 launches, it'll still be years behind browsers like firefox and even chrome.  Whatever you choose, it is important that you not use IE8 because it has already been exploited and pilaged to no end.  IE7 is somewhat more stable, at the cost of not having some new features.

tldr;  IE's tagline should be.  Internet Explorer: the best browser for downloading a better browser.

And I always thought it was called Internet Exploder.

It's probably because of a bad ad, and/or your browser/browser settings. When the problem is the ad, we alert the Huddler team and they go in the back door and terminate the bad ad with extreme prejudice. Otherwise, we'll have to diagnose what the problem is the hard way.

Epic does offer a permanent fix for this problem. Supporters have the option to turn off ads. Sigh. We have to pay the bills somehow.

Piece of crap.  I just attempted 3 different system restores to an earlier time and all of them failed.  Couldn't find a certain file...probably because of an anti-virus software (so I disabled Kapersky and it failed again).  It froze twice just trying to enter this thread.

That is crappy - but also a sign that your system needs TLC. I'm still working on the request to check for a bad ad anyway.

It's already gobs faster on Firefox.  However, I still wonder if and what is wrong with my IE.  This computer isn't even a month old.

It's not so much your IE as its everyones IE.  I did a quick search on the site and found numerous posts about users having issues with that browser.  As far as future proofing your computer grab a free copy of nod32 anti-virus.  It's a lightweight, powerful antivirus.  Also check into some of firefoxes addons like adblock.  I generally leave ads on for my favorite sites to pass along a little support, but if there's an ad that bothers me I'll turn on adbock then in a few days check the site again to see if the offending ad has been removed.  Chrome has adblock as well.

I do pretty much as described by 'themarmot'.  Adblock Plus is a pretty effective tool.  I leave it off on EpicSki because I need to see the behavior of ads,  Supporters also have the ability to shut off ads on EpicSki.

There are some bugs on the site that come up, and we do try to address them quickly. Right now, I am experiencing the inability to move my cursor to the end of this post, so I am currently in source view. Not a good thing.

I'm experiencing similar problems using Chrome. Things work fine, then a page will freeze up. Other sites continue to work fine, but the EpicSki pages are frozen. I close the EpicSki tabs, and start over, until I hit a bad page again. Sends CPU 100%. I'm guessing there's a bad ad in rotation. Annoying. Only happens on EpicSki.

Getting the same problem ever since the new (.11) Firefox, that was supposed to fix the other problems FF was having.  ONLY IN EPIC.  No problems anywhere else.

What is "source" view?

If you look on the upper left corner of the editor, when making a reply, the word Source and a document image is a toggle that takes you to Source view, which displays all the HTML code.  The Source view is not affected by these strange bugs and malfunctions, but it takes some getting used to.

FF is now out with .12.  Seems to have fixed the cursor problem.

I think the problem with the cursor not following a quote is in the Huddler code.  They need to add an automatic break after the quote source.

I just upgraded to 3.6.12 and still have the cursor above the quotes.  I can cut and paste the quote above though.

I was talking about the .11 problem where the cursor disappeared and you had to go into source mode to edit things, not the cursor above/below the quote problem, which I rarely ran into.  But, 12 has other problems (covered elsewhere).

As for the IE problem, I'm using the beta and although the font of the text is sort of fuzzy for some reason, I haven't had the freezing problem.  Of course, I mainly use FF.

More evidence that they need to put more effort into building a robust forum platform then into finding ways to get a cut of the ads they place here.

Hopefully epic gained something from this changeover to offset what has been lost.  Beta still imo.

I just quoted your post and the cursor appeared after. I am using Firefox on a Mac.

Now I'm manually quoting Cirque:

And the cursor is below the quote box.

Ok, I tried to put the cursor below your quote, but apparently I suck on the internet.

To whomever runs this forum(not sure if they're following this thread or not) firebug console is showing me several errors.  I'm not going to bother debugging them since it's not really my job, but I would def. start here:

GS_googleAddAdSenseService is not defined

GA_googleFillSlotWithSize is not defined
