Parents ruin another good thing

A local resort has been offering the 4th Graders ski for free program for sometime, but this year they decided not to offer the program.  I've used this program in the past to get two of my kids seasons passes.  All you had to do is go to the main ticket office, show them you kid's report card with B or better grades, pay $25 processing fee, and get your kid's picture taken, and then they hand you a season pass.  Maybe a 10 minute process.  All of these requirements are listed on their website.

When I asked why they had canceled it, the ski area said that of all the programs, this program was the hardest to administer.  When I asked why it was so hard, they said the parents would show up without the report card, but still expected to get the pass or they were unwilling to pay the $25 processing fee.  The parents would then whine and complain to management.  Well management took care of this for the whiny parents, they canceled the program.  Thanks!

Just like most kids sports, parents get involved and ruin everything.

Another case of 'No good deed goes unpunished.'

That's too bad. It seems like people cannot read and follow directions.

Call me cynical, but it sounds to me like the complainers were trying to get something they weren't entitled to, and the resort just used them as an excuse to cut a money loss.

The resort should have just said no to the whiners, gave them the list of requirements and asked them to apply latter. If they were really worried about losing the whiners business then they could have sold a kids ticket for $25.00 and applied that amount toward the administration fee for the season pass later.Caving to whiners just reinforces bad behavior. Punishing everybody else creates bad customer relations. Good customer relations means dealing with complainers. I was always told that the customer isn't always right but they do deserve to be heard.

Ditto.  Sounds like they were sitting around trying to decide what to cut and the parents made it easy to pick this.  Save money, save headaches.  Makes it bubble to the top on the list of programs to cut in tough times.
