Think of it this way. Would you rather ski the skinny skis everyone was using in the 80's, or would you rather ski the modern shaped skis that you've grown to love? The technology in the industry is constantly evolving, so OF COURSE they're going to be marketing it as the latest and greatest thing. Perhaps because it actually is! Rockered skis have proved to me to have amazing versatility over a variety of conditions, making a smaller quiver much more possible. Yes, I understand that other skis can definitely be better in certain solitary conditions. It's not like you can change skis all over the mountain as the conditions change, though. That's where I've grown to love rockered skis and haven't looked back. They might not be the best for any ONE condition, but they do well over most conditions. I can play on the groomers (although you have to majorly ride them on edge), jump into some trees, hit the bowls, play in some powder I find on the backside of the mountain, and have a blast all over the mountain!
Demo some this season, and then tell us what you think. That's the only way to see if you like them. Maybe you will, maybe you won't. No biggie.
