Whats your real job?

Thread Starter

What do you do, to support your family and your skiing (habit)? Or is it just a annual few vacation days to the mountians?

I am semi-retired, pick up a few odd jobs to suppliment retirement income, usually ski a few long weekends at the (larger?) midwestern ski areas, 6 or 7 days in the western mountains, and patrol a couple of days a week at the local small hill. Around 40 to 50 days per season total, counting the the patrol days.

Business Data Analyst managing and tracking global sales operations systems oriented stuff.  Identify and troubleshoot problems like account manager conflicts and data discrepancies.  I have lots of maitnence on a 50+ year old house as well as the parental oblications of two elementary aged kids.  I can usually only get away to ski (or do anything else without the whole family) about once or twice a month.

Retired band teacher and Christmas tree farmer.

The tree farm is the perfect part time job for a skier.  Our major work begins in June and goes mostly non-stop until Christmas with some time off in September.  I have to work about 8- 10 days total from Christmas through the end of April.  Needless to say, I have time to ski a lot.

I'm also a musician, but this thread's about real jobs.

Oh, no! This thread looks like it's about to branch out into sappy jokes and needling of others.  Finndog barks, then what?  The next thing you know, someone will open up their trunk of dumb puns. We'll all be pining for the days when posts were spruced up by complaining about gapers with fir lined boots.  In the grand and noble tradition of my true Scotch bud, Douglas Nordmann, I shall refrain from aspersion, though I hope that someone will become a leader and root out the dumb jokes, or at least make a stand and trim this problem.  They would be an ornament to Epic, lighting the way to sober, reasoned discussion.

I own a small business selling foodservice equipment & supplies that supports my family and am a part time ski instructor that supports my habit. Business slows down a bit in the winter months don't know if that's cause or effect.

Hey bartender - one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer......

Chemical engineer, making fertilizer.  Counting the days until retirement ( only 5,840 days to go).

Tropical storm passed/formed over us last night. I don't think I slept more than 3 hours, mostly concerned about my boat. Thankfully... no damage!

That was an odd leap. I'm not a bartender.

I work in the customer strategy group for a large financial services firm.  One of the reasons I took the job is we have a large office in SLC, which I could take a position in tomorrow if I wanted, but we are headquartered in NYC, and I'm trying to climb the corporate ladder, so instead, here I sit, in a cube, in lower Manhattan, staring at a computer screen instead of the mountains.  Lots of life choices to make...

I cut people open then put them back together better than they were...if all goes according to plan.
