Did your Supporter Subscription Expire?

Thread Starter

On 9/22/10 many supporters who had been comped supporter membership for the last year had their subscriptions expire.  The only way to restore access to the supporter benefits and enjoy the new ones is to renew or subscribe.  Many of the expired memberships are people we have come to know and appreciate in the lounge and in real skiing life.

I hope if this affected you, you will renew and stay involved.  Times are tough and its understandable some may be uncomfortable spending hard-earned money on a ski forum subscription.  We do our best to be sure your support of EpicSki gets paid forward over and over again.  Take a look at the new features and benefits. We look forward to having you continue as a supporter, and of course respect your right to make that choice.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Become an EpicSki Supporter and get access to special deals, special site privileges, and the private forums.

I'm not worthy. Special deals, special privileges, private forums! I'd love to help you with that, but I just can't right now. This website kind of sucks now. I can't even figure out how to post a photograph. Get your act together, and come back with your cupped hands and sad face when you have a product worth buying.

I have found posting photos has been easier than ever. I can either upload direct or link from another source, plus I can keep a gallery. If you are having issues, let me/us know and would be glad to walk you through it. I agree the software has taken a step back in some area's those are small compared to the other advances. But if it in not worth it for you, thats fine but it far from sucking.

I'm afraid of the steeps, and this is too steep for me. I will miss some of you, and you know who you are.

CR........I'm glad to have 'known' you. You enriched my life many times over. Cirque, you're the only one who makes sense sometimes. PJ.....what can I say? You're a marvel. Best to Ro. VA, Pete No. Idaho, GarryZ.....we'll see you around this winter. Nolo, Weems, Fox....you have all changed my life for the better and I pay it forward all the time. Oboe....I will never forget your kindness and generosity. Skier_j......we had a good run, and I will always have a special place for you in my heart. Rock on, Sweetie.

And to that Mystery Person for the first ESA: You will never know just how much I appreciated that act of generosity. On Sept. 12, a homeless man got a new sleeping bag,in honor of you. It just keeps on giving.

Over and out, play nice, kiddies.

Well Bonni, I'll come out here and visit from time to time.  Don't disappear for long

I'm still waiting for someone else to show up: (from post 8400 of a long thread)

I have been the benificiary of at least ten fold the cost of supporter membership over the past year in various perks including merchandise gift certificates where I didn't have to shell out any cash at all.  This is the best deal in town, even if you don't use the online supplier discounts you're likely to get your money back via stuff from new ski buddies, info about lift ticket and pass discounts, and other contests.  Probably the best value was hearing about a much better place to park (parking lot stash LOL) at a resort I like but that gets VERY crowded.

I recommend pulling that trigger

x2.  My p-tex gun from Slidewright paid for my subscription last time 'round.

You guys might want to send PMs to supporters whose subscription has lapsed.  I just happened to see this post by accident & just happened to check to see if my supporter status was gone. If I hadn't noticed until after the price went up to $45, I'd be kind of annoyed...

Then again, I just paid $10 for BB's Encyclopedia of Skiing like a week ago.  Wish I'd known what was up; I could have gotten it for $5 along with my renewal.

I agree, it's gotten steep and I cringed, a LOT.  But it was going to get higher yet.  So, it'll probably be my last renewal.  I don't have enough money to buy stuff, so discounts don't do much good, but I did like turning ads off and that helped the page loads a lot even though I'm using OpenDNS because it stopped attempting to load the ads.  But, I do think it's a ton of money when you're on a fixed income and can barely afford the season pass each year.  So, unless I come into sudden wealth next year, i doubt if I'll pay the higher tab next year.

After we send a notice by email, we get a list of emails that either bounced or where the person unsubscribed and those we send PMs. Otherwise we do not.

We're working to make the Supporter benefits way outweigh the cost in rewards that skiers want in addition to other benefits like the private forums, no ad option, links in your signature, Instructor Listing and badge, etc., etc. It's great to hear that crgildart and geoffda saved more than the cost of the membership! That's the idea.

Supporters really do support the site; in fact your contributions have enabled us to finally pay the people who do so much to keep this place going!

Ahh.  Note to self: check your e-mail more often, stupid!  :)

Could you please make WTFH's House of Humour and Spirits something that only supporters can see? Thanks.

Apparently posting photos requires a subscription. So I'm sure that many won't choose to pay for the privilege of giving the site color. It's seems strange to me that I need to pay money to add the value of my photography. However since one can post smart-ass remarks without paying a dime, I'll continue posting my parallax view of the world*, and won't clutter the sight with photo trip reports.

Edit:* Just the world of skiing now that I'm out of the supporter ranks.

Really?  It didn't use to require a subscription.  You used to be able to link to pictures elsewhere at the very least.  You can't do that anymore?  When did that start?

I could be mistaken, but I think this is no different than it has always been.  You can post pics with URL links to a photo host, but it is a subscribers privilege to upload and have your own albums on EpicSki.

VA, you can not only post photos, you can host whole albums for free.  Just go to My Profile and scroll down to My Albums.  You can upload unlimited pictures, then simply copy and paste into the posts.  All members have that capability, no supporter status necessary.  File attachments (spreadsheets, documents, acrobat etc) requires supporter subscription, but it is rarely used anyway.

See, I was mistaken.........Cirquerider is right

The only one getting 800K is Weems, and that's just in milligrams.

Hmmm....I guess it WAS a bug, I tried posting a picture from a URL, but although it show up properly in the preview, there was image, just a link to an error message. I though it was due to my downgrade.

Oh well, nevermind.

I'll probably be back when I'm gainfully employed again but the cost of Epic will get me another day of skiing for at least one of my kids. This site cannot begin to repay me for all the great people I met and fun times I had at the gatherings and clinics. I'll see yinz guys at the Blue Knob/Mid-Atlantic Gathering the weekend after Presidents Day February 25-27 2011(date unofficial, check listings later).

We owe you a lot!

Of course being a Supporter is a completely voluntary deal and doesn't prevent anyone from enjoying the site or our awesome gatherings. We hope our long time Supporters enjoyed last year's complimentary pass. Whether you decide to re-up or to use the money for another purpose, we hope you'll continue to support the site with your  and  about the sport we all love.

Great crew last year! Should EpicSki Supporters be allowed to attend the Blue Knob Academy? If so, how much extra should we charge them?

CRG and nolo, you haven't heard the last of me and hey Rod, I say we make 'em pay with a round or two of brew and we can school them on how to make smiles for free.

Cheers. I must admit I've never met an EpicSki member or supporter I didn't like. :) Except for Pierre. :D

You got to be kidding, right?

I would have renewed, but the cost is high and being from Europe means that the competitions, the discounts etc are all totally useless for me so it was a no brainer to not fork out the dosh agin
