Mr. mock my 1975 orange/black Rossi' ST Competition skis,
Ok, I found a sweet deal on some slightly used 184 cm Volkl Carver Plus skis, had Salomon 977 bindings mounted (used - e-bay) with the Salomon driver/riser plates and ... I'll have to keep them.
Could it be the conditioning I have been doing the last few weeks that they seemed less work and more responsive than my old skis? Ok, the shaped skis are more in tune with this 42 year old transplant from MN. I'm not a teenager beatin' up low altitiude midwest runs anymore. Time to admit that and go with the modern stuff for these old legs. But I'm going to hang onto the Rossi's and when I'm in even better shape in 2 months, I'll give them a few runs, just to see how they feel (my new DIN boots fit my old non-DIN bindings perfectly).
I got some 90's Technica racing boots with adjustable height/flex ($50 at Play it Again Sports, fit great, nice and stiff the way I like 'em) and a new jacket (old one was at least 20 years old). I'm still wearing my navy blue with the red stripes stretch pants because still fit well and are comfortable. I'm using my 30 year old $5 Target goggles because the padding is still good (my modern goggle padding disintegrated a few years ago) and they fit over my glasses nicely.
If your ever at Monarch the same day I am, you should be able to spot me with the ski pants and the only goggles on the mountain with a thin white elastic band, also the Volkl Carver Plus.
Getting into this modern mountain skiing, Jim Bob.
