It is a perfect job, and I wish I could apply. Family medical issues will keep me from moving to UT for at least a year.
The Canyons has the financial backing of Talikster. Talikster seems to be doing whatever it takes, regardless of cost, to maximize the potential of the place. I imagine this contest will give them lots of free advertising, and find them great, literate employees who understand the customer experience is everything. Some people on this site don't realize that the resort industry is simply a "people business," and people serve--not service--other people.
The Canyons biggest problem, IMO, isn't Deer Valley or PCMR. It is Colorado. There are still mistaken perceptions that Utah resorts are difficult to get to, don't serve liquor, aren't as "exclusive" as an Aspen or Vail, etc. The older skiers like me are, well, getting older. The next generation that has 20-30 strong years left in their legs and open minds is their target. This blogging position is a backdoor way to get skiers to see the value of Utah, the value of riding the biggest resort in Utah, and to permanently forget about those mistaken perceptions.
