Need a ski rack for a car they don't sell ski racks for!

Of the 300+ ski racks that Thule and Yakima make, there isn't one for my winter ski beast.  I have a 99' Police Interceptor that has served as safe, reliable winter transportation for a couple years now.  Though skis under 165 cm fit nicely in the trunk, anything longer than that rides shotgun which limits the number of passengers on trips to the hill.

The problem with the Crown Vic is that it has a smooth roof.  No gutters, rails, or racks.  It also has a decent curve to it.  No flat spots at all.

My only option is to permantely mount a rack to the roof, and then a ski rack to that.  The car isn't exactly a looker to begin with, so having a rack mounted 24/7 wouldn't be my first choice.

Does anyone know of a ski rack that is detachable?  If I have four mounting points permanently on the car, I am fine with that.  Thanks for your help!

Cop Motor, Cop Suspension and it's a model made before catalytic converters so it runs great on regular gas. It is the new Blue Mobile, or what?

Funny, my impulse to buy the car was because of those very lines!!!
Jake: What is this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac?
[Jake tries to use the car's lighter, but it does not work; he throws it out the window]
Jake: The Caddy, where's the Caddy?
Elwood The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have! The Bluesmobile!
Elwood I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Bluesmobile for this?!
Elwood: No ... for a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? [pause] Okay, I can see that. But what the hell is this?
Elwood: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving them away.
Jake: Well thank you, pal. The day I get out of prison, my own brother comes to pick me up in a police car.
[They stop in front of an opening drawbridge]
Elwood You don't like it?
Jake: [pause] No, I don't like it.
[Elwood jumps the car over the bridge]
Jake: [impressed] Car's got a lot of pickup.
Elwood: It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
[Jake light his cigarette using his lighter]
Jake: Fix the cigarette lighter.

Elwood: It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.

Jake: First you trade the Cadillac for a microphone, then you lie to me about the band, and now you're gonna put me right back in the joint!
Elwood: They're not gonna catch us. We're on a mission from God!

I used to have a  '92 Buick LeSabre; same deal: no rain gutter, grooves, etc. Had a Barrecrafter rack that clamped on in between the roof and the doors. As I recall, it wasn't all that great for the door seals, but it carried our 200cm skis and didn't fall off.

Seems to me there should be more than a few cars like that these days, so maybe it's just a matter of playing around with different mounting hardware until you find something that works.

I have the same issue with my 2005 Caddy CTS-V. Apparently roof racks will work on the '04, and the '06, but not the '05. I love my car, but next time I go car shopping, I'm taking that into account. The wagon with the factory roof rack is looking pretty good about now. That and AWD. Hehe.

If you Google "magnetic roof racks" you should come up with a few options.

It's looking like I will have to get a permanent  roof rack and then attach a ski rack to it.  I might do a custom job though!

What about a Malone Handirack?
