I think if you had full face helmet and head to toe body armor your would feel damn near invincible. You could cut real close to the those trees a lot faster than you normally would because nothing can happen to you now.
I believe they figure a helmet is worth about 6 additional MPH in increased speed. With full body armor, I bet we can get that up to an extra 15 MPH. With modern shaped skis adding another 10 MPH, we are now going 25 MPH faster than we did 10 years ago. Isn't technology great.
For you skiers out there, you can say hey snowboarders bring it on.
Obviously I am making fun of the helmet debates. Seriously helmets are good and I wear one. News flash, helmets are not as good as everyone thinks they are. As for body armor, I don't think they have any data on that yet.
Seriously my personal opinion. Death rates have not changed much with over 50 percent of skiers and riders now wearing helmets. Reason IMHO is skiers are going a lot faster than they did 10 years ago thanks to shaped skis and wearing a helmet. Result not much has changed except for the speed. With helmet and no body armor, a skier or rider hits a stationary object with a helmet may result in no head trauma. But that doesn't mean blunt force trauma to the chest won't kill you or do permanent quality of life injury.
Will all this protection technology equate to less injuries? Nah we just go faster and take more risks, which neutralizes any extra protection.
I sure hope it snows soon.
