I am relatively new to skiing, having grown up in Florida. I have been skiing the last few years (always in Colorado) and consider myself to be an advanced skiier, but still plenty of room to improve technically. I am looking for a good all-mountain ski that can do it all. My roommate from grad school was a ski instructor and got my hooked. I generally ski with him, and we prefer off-piste as much or more than on. We do a lot of tree runs, backside and powder when we can find it. Our on-piste activities usually consist of some blues, but a majority of blacks. I need something that can handle off-piste while still being good on the groomers (esp for skiing with my girfriend who only runs blue groomers with a few blacks spinkled in). I am 28 y/o 5'9.5" and a 195 lbs. I am a pretty strong guy and disliked a few of the rentals I had last season becasue they were just too soft and couldn't get my power down. I am considering the K2 Apache Xplorer (likely in 170cm) or the Dynastar Sultan 85. I need some advice as I am still learning about equipment and not sure which one would fit my style/level of skiing. Thxs!
