Park City Free Lift Ticket "Quick Start" Program is Back... Where to go?

The flight we're looking at gets into SLC at 11:15am, so it looks we can take advantage of the "Quick Start Program" for a free lift ticket on the day of your arrival.

Question 1: For an 11:15am arrival, realistically what time are we at the slopes after renting a car?

Question 2: Where would you go, given the 11:15am arrival?

I'm thinking now that they addressed some of their lift issues at the base, The Canyons is the superior resort.  However, Park City has night skiing, which might give us an extra hour or two of fun.

I would plan on about an hour after landing to get your bags and rental car; less time if you can bypass the rental desk and go directly to your car.  From the airport, you should be able to make it to Park City in 30 - 40 minutes.  If all goes well, you could be on the lift by about 1:00.

Personally, I like the Canyons best of the PC resorts.  Each have their + and -, but I prefer the terrain at the Canyons over the others.  Plus, it is the closest to SLC and has the easiest/quickest access.

2nd the 1 pm assuming all goes well at baggage claim.

Each has its good points. You have only a few hours so its not like you will be able to fully explore any of those resorts.

If it were me... I would go to the canyons and check out the new iron mountain area which would be a nice afternoon.

If you have never been to any of the PC areas before, Deer vallet is a bit more compact and you can get a feel for the resort in an afternoon.

Although yes you would get some extra skiing, the number of runs is very limited so I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor.

A bit of a downside to the Canyons (when you are already in a pinch on time), is that you have to take the Cabriolet to the Village, walk, and then the Gondola to the Mountain "Base" so you can access some of the better terrain.  That would eat up some time.

In the end, they are all great resorts, and you really can't pick a bad one.  I preferred Canyons, Deer Valley and then Park City in that order, but I would ski at any again in a heart beat.

In the pm, go to the Can., and ski the terrain off of the orange bubble and super condor. Silverado bowl, murdoch's, and really anything off super condor is $$$ in the pm. Definitely best bang for the buck.

Okay Canyons it is.

Maybe if we can split up coming off the flight... with one guy going straight to the rental car, with the others getting the bags, we can improve our time to 12:30ish????

i.e. Touchdown 11:15.  Off the plane 11:25. Bags retrieved and in the car by 11:45.  At the Canyons by 12:20ish and on the Cabriolet by 12:30.

If we stay to the very last lift which is apparently 4pm, that will be a decent first day.

Good plan. I have done quick start many times. Another issue is changing into ski clothes, getting ski equipment out of bags, etc. It eats up some time. typically, I grab a quick lunch somewhere and use the bathroom to change. However, you really shouldn't have any problem getting on slopes by 1:30pm. Especially if you go to canyons which is closest.

I'll only have to throw the ski pants on in the parking lot. Everything else I can be wearing ahead of time.  Flying out of Buffalo, rather than Maui allows me to do that.

If you don't know the layout, go downstiars to baggage claim together, then one guy walks across the street to get the rental car, while the others get luggage and then meet at the pickup island, the 2nd island. The driver will have to leave the airport and staying left drive around it a big loop and back to the island.  Don't eat at the airport, because sometimes the rental car line can be long, so don't doddle once you get off the plane.  (but anyway, I usually get in at 10:30am and stop for a quick pizza at Sbaro's) Stop for a quick bite somewhere on the way and find a parking lot to do the SLC shuffle, unpacking the bags and getting dressed for skiing.  You should be out of airport by Noon and on your way, skiing a little after 1pm..  Try not to be too anxious, you should get your skiing in.

On the way back it's handy to drop all the luggage off with the luggage porter on one of islands before turning in your car.  I'll be doing QuickStart also this year, I was going to fly out in the evening, but hey now, Free Skiing is worth getting up at 4am.
