Summer Skiing in Chile

Here is a trip report from Chile August 13th to August 26th 2010.

I met Liv4Ski (Dave) at the Santiago airport Aug 14th in the around 9 am. We then drove up to Valle Nevado for afternoon skiing.  Next we hooked up with CASA tours.  We skied at Portillo for 1 day, then Ski Arpa for 2 days, then El colorado for 1 day, then Valle Nevado for 1 day, then La Parva for 1 day.   Most of these days wre filled with freeze thaw coral reef death snow.  With that said, we had a great time.  It was surreal to be skiing in August.

Next we split apart fro the tour and rented a car to drive to Nevados De Chillan.

Its amazing what 5 hours South can do.  When we got there it was raining, but the next morning we had reports that it was snow ing at the top all night.  We had three great days here.  It was one of the coolest places that I have been to.

Check out the Pics at the following site.

BTW

If anybody is interested in sharing a house in Jackson Hole from Feb 26th to Mar 5th 2011,

Send a PM for more info.

Great pictures and what a difference a couple hundred miles and a little snow makes.

Hey great pictures!

Seems like you had an amazing time.

I skied for a couple of days at Valle Nevado last week (Thursday and Saturday) and the of piste snow was just like you said: "freeze thaw coral reef death snow"

Dave,

Did you get out and surf with Earl lurking off the coast?

Another prompt for skiers interested in a sweet lodging deal at Jackson Hole Feb 26-Mar 5.  PM me, Liv4Ski, or David Hecht.

Brian,

It was neat to ski the day after coming back from skiing.  At that time it was tropical storm Danielle.  Then Earl came and I got out for some fun waves.  This weekend also looks good for surfing.  I'll try to put together some footage.

Thanks.  I enjoyed watching.  Nice footage of the mini avalanche too.
