From the Vail post, it looks like an orange & yellow streamer on our poles is the sign for Epic people.

 1. Where can one get an orange and yellow streamer?   Sounds like we have to sew one ?  Or tie 2 streamers together?

Vail on Sunday  April 3, 2011 AD at 9:30  CDT mid-mountain is the first meet-up.. This is tight but should work.

 2. Is there an alternate location & later time if we miss this?

Which direction is the advanced group heading? Vail is a huge place.

I can't leave before 6am(locked gate)  and I'm driving from 2 hours away. I won't pay $25 to park so the free options require another 30 to 45 minutes

of bus rides or a walk to Cascade  (3 lift rides-another 30-45 minutes) to get to the lift 2/3 base area. Plus time to boot-up.

The only way with one lift ride requires riding the Vista Bahn Express which is near the $25 parking garage.

I may be the second one to get that drink! !  Oops  it's close, I see we need 80-81 season or earlier.

Vail meeting place...the "brown bag building" is called Sarge's, ask for it if you get lost.

Meeting Place

Due to the high number of participants expected we are going to meet mid-mountain.  Our meeting spot will be in the “brown bag building” a wooden structure between the Midvail  Lodge and the base of lifts #3 and #4, right across from the bar-b-que pits. Be ready to depart the building for the slopes at 9:30.  Lifts open at 8:30 so early birds can get a few runs off lifts 3 and 4 before the meeting.

Looks like the Epic pass (and newly named passes) are available today for purchase.  Some limited Spring benefits.

Interesting - if I'm reading that correctly, it looks like the Local Pass (formerly Colorado Pass) no longer requires you to purchase in person the first time.

It didn't last year either.

We've already had this discussion in this thread - see post 71 for the conclusion (or remember the conversation you had). wink.gif

The one thing that confuses me is why they'd state unlimited April riding in 2012 for the Local Pass.  It seems you'd have that anyways.  I called to see if it were a misprint, and that it'd allow for April 2011 skiing, but the lady said it was 2012.  I still don't know why it would be for next spring when you'd already have that access.

You're limited to 10 days at Beaver Creek/Vail - but apparently in April, you get all the days you want.

That's where my brain was freezing.  Thanks, so it's not a better deal to buy now.  Still gotta figure out what I want to get since I loved skiing Keystone, but don't know if I'll make it out to Vail/BC enough to warrant the $100.

If you'll get to Vail/BC even once mid-season it's still a deal since that $100 (actually $90) will be less than the window price. eek.gif

Anyone interested in reserving a beach spot on Friday? I checked and there are a few left...

I'd be more interested in Tuesday since I'm now considering taking it as well as Wednesday off work.

Is anyone from Minneapolis coming out to the gathering?  Or is there anyone traveling through Minneapolis by car over for the gathering?  If so, please PM me if you're willing to help get a pair of ski boots out to me in CO. TIA

Whatcha gettin', and should this be in the Gathering Gear or Retro Memories thread?

Noods, I am from Mpls and had been planning on attending this year's Gathering...  Until I tore my ACL back in Dec(see ACL thread).  Despite the recent good news in terms of my recovery, I shelved the thought of making it out to the dance this year way back when I tore myself up.  I am tempted to come,(and help you out, of course) but I've got to resist the urge, out of concerns for my own safety!  I hope you find your solution.  Looking forward to finding out where next year's Gathering will be!

I hope everyone has a great time this year. hissyfit.gif

That's the way it looks to me...seems like this pass will be purchased by more non-CO people, including those from the SF Bay area (b/c of the newly included Tahoe benefits being expanded from 5 days this year to virtually unlimited other than the 11 blackout days)

Correct- might not help non-CO people, but it it helped me last year and should come in handy this year as I am at 8 Vail/BC days so far...the only real spring '11 benefit for paid in full Spring purchase seems to be 2 April '11 Tahoe days.

Other than a $50 price bump to the 2 epic passes, the biggest changes to the VR passes are nearly unlimited restricted days in Tahoe (Northstar/Heavenly) with the Local Epic (former CO) and Summit becoming a "value" pass with 11 blackouts days at Breck...They also appear to be continuing the trend of more expensive buddy tickets($69 next year up from $59 this year) for those purchasing in the spring.  The way they have bumped up the ski with a friend tickets this year ($80s most days), they don't have a ton of room to bump it next (unless they raise tix prices in general) and still have the discount mean anything.

I'm thinking about skiing Sunday (10th) and catching a 6:15 flight out   What is the closest good mountain and how much time woulld I need to get from the mountain to the airport?

I've got a 5:30 flight out on Sunday. Legs permitting, I may do a 4 hour flex ticket at Loveland (8:30 to 12:30). (Easy to say that now.) That should leave enough time to get back to the airport. (My main constraint is my rental car return time.) As Ski3pio has pointed out in the past, from Loveland you'll get some view of how bad the traffic looks.

In less exciting and more practical news, is anyone staying in Dillon looking to share a car?  I've got a rental SUV right now, but not at a great rate.  (Reviews of the cheaper Denver car rentals ranged from inconsistent to terrible.)  I'm staying at the Comfort Suites.  I think Living Proof is taking one seat for part of the week, but I could fit two or even three more (since the car is supposed to have a ski rack).

I'm flying in Saturday 4/2 (mid-morning) and out on Sunday 4/10 (morning), so if your travel matches up I can also shuttle you to/from Denver.

Edit: grammar.

Aw, thanks.  But that would be a bit crowded I think!  I think I've got Saturday night covered but not sure yet.  Need to look into Tuesday night since I just confirmed Tuesday and Wednesday off work so I'll be skiing both those days too.

Yeah, there is a bunch of folks staying in the Silverthorne / Dillon area.  Maybe we should arrange a meeting spot (early.....some of us have work to do) at one of the hotels and carpool.  It will save a few bucks on parking and gas.  The breck days were scheduled on the cheap parking days (usually $ 5.00)  which becomes free with 4 in the car.

It's going to be tought to find a free spot on Sunday in Vail unless you are early.....even tougher if it's a powder day.  Might make sense under those conditions to just throw 4 in the car and come up with the $ 6.00 each to pay for parking.  The second Vail day shouldn't be too much of a problem finding a free spot.

I may also have one or two 1/2 price tickets for Loveland.  To use these two people have to go to the ticket window and you get 2 tickets for the price of one. (they won't just give you one half price ticket with this voucher)

I think I have 2 beds in my hotel room - or at least a sleeper sofa with a king, so you are welcome to stay with me Tuesday night.

You are too sweet!  Let me find out on another ping I put out then let you know.  I'm so happy I'll finally get to see you again.  I was so sorry Steamboat didn't work out.
