I am proud to announce the
2011 EpicSki Gathering
April 3rd through April 9th
This year’s dates and areas are:
4/9 Copper (Cancelled-see post # 104 for details)
I encourage all participants to buy a 6-day pass (or less days if you can’t attend the entire event) through the Vail Resorts Web Site. Please be sure, no matter how many days you plan to attend, you get the Breckenridge / Keystone ticket package. This 6 day ticket is good for 3 days at Vail and Beaver Creek. You can go to www.snow.com and research ticket prices. The 6 day ticket is $408.
If you plan to be skiing at any of the Vail Resorts Ski Areas at another time in the year you should strongly consider a season’s pass. Pass info can be found at www.Coloradopass.com
Copper ticket information can be found at www.Coppercolorado.comMany Copper regulars have a CopperMtn.“4 pack ticket”. Four Pack ticket holders have four $59.00 “buddy passes” they can pass along to others. Some local ski shops also have discounted tickets.
For those of you heading up at the last second there are usually some discounted tickets available via other Bears.
Frisco, Colorado(as well as the towns of Silverthorne and Dillon) are central to all the areas we will be skiing at. There is every variety of lodging you can imagine there and will be readily available at that time of year.
There is an excellent mass transit system both on the county level and locally at all the areas except A-Basin. You can get around in a pinch, but will have difficulty making meeting times and places. A rental car is recommended, and you should plan for winter conditions despite the calendar date.
If you want to avoid renting a car and know someone you can car-pool with once you get to Summit County, you can catch a ride from the airport with Colorado Mountain Express (CME). The cost each way is about $80, and they are pretty reliable.
There are a dozen or so guides ready to “put you on the terrain”. (We take our group ski outings pretty seriously there). Not all groups will have a guide and no one has to ski with a guide if they don’t want to, it’s your call. Here is the way it will work. The guide(s) will announce what they are going to do for the day and you are free to join in. It might be bumps, a trip to the steeps, cruise some groomers, or a tour-de-jour. These guys and gals know their way around these places and are there to show you all the hidden spots. You’d be half crazy to not take advantage of that.
Meeting times and Places
I’ll announce the meeting times and places at a later point in time. Other information will be included like directions to the areas, advice on parking and transportation etc. etc.
I’m going to do that on a page by page basis so you can print a page at home for each area and all the information will be at your fingertips rather than wade through this entire first post again. It should help.
As expected the usual “Gathering Roll Call” thread will be posted shortly and is ONLY FOR ROLL CALL. Otherwise ask all your questions here on this thread, and talk it up. Have a great 2010-2011 season and I look forward to seeing all at The EpicSki Gathering in Colorado.
