Ski Magazines

Ok, so Skiing is pretty much defunct, but where is Ski?  For years, both of these magazines were in my mailbox in August with the September gear issues.  Here it is Sept.2, and nothing. I received Powder in the mail about two weeks ago, and Freeskier arrived on

Tuesday. Was in the local grocery store last night and they had three snowboarding magazines on the racks, but not a single ski publication. Not a good sign. What gives?

and you are better off without it!

You might want to give Mountain Sports & Living a try. The photography is superb!

No matter how much everyone pans Ski, you know you look forward to the gear issue. Any ski related magazine is better than not getting one.

I'd rather have something to bitch about than not.

Ski sucks. Plain and simple. Unless, of course, you are interested in real estate around eastern ski areas.

Only for laughs. I've seen the same ski get high / low rating in exactly the opposite categories depending on year without any change to the ski.

Haven't missed Ski or Skiing in a long, long time with the other available mags.

I've never regrettet what I pay to get Ski delivered......$0.00

That makes it pretty darn good junk mail.  It's the only junk mail that I keep on the table by the TV and photo albums. I guess we could also count the Boy's Life that comes with my son's Cub Scout dues.  I get Ski free for racing NASTAR once a year.   I don't even ask for it, it just comes.

But, as you say, I haven't seen one since May.

That's right, the price is right.  Like you, my SKI magazines are always right at hand to see Mike Rogan demonstrate skiiing and I probably receive it for entering a few Nastar runs a year.

Last place I'd go for gear advice.

Ski mag is owned by the evil Bonnier corporation. As such, i refuse to allow them to ship it to me, even free.

Hi iWill:

What's the low down on "evil Bonnier" corporation?  Just asking for clarification.  And yes Ski and Skiing (as well as a host of other sports magazine) are owned by Bonnier, evil or otherwise.

Hi blokhead:

It seems that Skiing has "morphed" into Skiing Interactive:  http://www.vimeo.com/12924902

SKI is no longer printing a September issue.  The gear guide will be the October issue.  Presumably the lame resort guide will be November.

Anyone know what's happening with the Warren Miller/Level 1 dispute?

So does your mother.

Yeah! I'm kinda at a loss. I liked that ski porn crap, no matter how much you real, manly, semipro, superbad skierboys panned it. Hell, we all panned it- and read every word. It wasn't Surfer's Journal, but it was at least something. So, we got Pouter and Freeskier and Ski Press Journal, what else? Mountain Sports and Living?  Ski Journal?  Ok. Subscribing tomorrow. Print lives!

you can always pay the 20 for access to realskiers.com reviews. there's other threads here about them but Peter and his testers (some from here) do a good job in general.  I just wish I had any place to go see the skis I am interested in.
