Wide screen posts - Page 3

I am not asking to make it less wide, but to allow it to get narrow when the window is made smaller.

I can't imagine that I could have made this any clearer then I have - numerous times.  A well designed website does not cut text off when a window is made less narrow, it automatically wraps the text, thus allowing each user to set their window width where they want it.

This is a poor design, not a matter of opinion or subjective choice.

Thanks for clarifying; I apologize for not getting that the problem is not the wide screen but the inability to downsize your window past a certain width and maintain text wrapping.

My issue is that if I increase the zoom so the font is a comfortable size for me to read, as soon as the text field goes wide it also goes off the page.  I nearly always have the window sized to full screen.  My options are to do the horizontal scroll or to decrease the zoom so that I can barely read the type........ or peruse a different web site.

So can a ticket be opened for this to get done?  It seems more important as it effects many more people then nested quoting does.

Ditto for me.

I wrote a similar post earlier, but apparently did not hid submit.

This is getting hard on my eyes, the small font & having to read accross the page is tough.

In the meantime I will just hit enter & start a new line for each sentence.

Thanks,

JF

Steve, you'll be unhappy to hear that there is no ticket for this. If you want to avoid the text wrap issue, you'll have to keep your window at about 1000 pixels (the minimum supported width). (With my Mac/Safari, this is still a pretty small window.)

OTOH, the team is having a look into Bumpfreaq's issue because that's not supposed to happen.

Not to be a pain, but why is this not being addressed?  Is it impossible to do or you just don't deem it as important?

If the latter I will happily start a poll to see just how widespread this annoyance is.   This is extremely unusual for the web to have text fields that are so wide, and more importantly that are limited to being so wide.

I agree with SMJ that the minimum could be 800 pixels wide and still work fine for those that keep their browsers wider. Certainly 1250 pixels wide for a max is just too big. It is uncomfortable to scan lines that wide for reading. You end up reading the same line or skipping lines as when you scan back from right to left you loose your vertical perspective.

I design for the 1024 pixel wide browser. Users with screens less than 1024 are just SOOL. But usually the right side is ads, so the worthy content shows and the ads just disappear. If Epic kept to a 1024 pixel wide format, but didn't have the posts below the right margin expand to the edge of the browser, the useful content would be 660 pixels or so wide with a browser width of 1024 pixels or less. This would work for me.

I'm not a fan of the featured content stuff either.  Wastes time to have to scroll down past it everytime I visit the site.

Thanks for the roundup SMJ.

It seems that we, the customers, are being told what we will get rather than being considered a part of the team.

There is a good reason that newspapers and magazines print in columns, not page widths. Its easier to read. The same applies for computer screens.

As a web developer that develops content management system, I don't understand the resistance to adding some options to our account preferences such as whether to use the space below the right hand column ads for posts or to leave it white space. If people want to use every pixel of their browser for posts fine. For those of us that don't appreciate being ridden over rough shod, give us a check box to retain the whitespace in the right column below the ads. It isn't rocket science.

Yes, I don't understand why it can't be made to just wrap.

Folks, you have been heard. We can't promise an immediate fix, but I promise that your suggestions are being brought before the team. Every single suggestion is considered, but we don't have the ability to act immediately on every single suggestion. We appreciate your patience.

Now, I think we've heard the complaint, as you yourself said, SkiMangoJazz, numerous times, and we're going to ask that you let us take it from here.
