The White Screen of Death is generally a deeper problem than a website or application can generate.
I've seen it as a result of Operating System errors (drivers, DLLs, corrupted O/S files, etc) or Hardware issues. Not sure I've ever seen an App cause it directly. Indirectly, an App may use the corrupted driver, OCX , DLL or Hardware element and thus trigger it.
As I recall, it's caused by the Operating System choosing to "stop" itself abruptly due to a detected error that may cause further harm to something else if the O/S continues to function.
If it happens several times you likely have a hardware or O/S issue.
