Hi epic ski followers

We found this classic video of skiers training in Coronet Peak Queenstown and Ruapehu way back in 1949

It is from Archives NZ library and we thank them for allowing us to share with the world.

(Do watch it on Google Chrome or Firefox and preferably with Adobe Flash 10.1 for best online video experience)

If you know any more mature folk send them a link for some nostalgia.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing.  Great stuff from the land where skiers "take to their wings and soar like birds while the snow softly sings and wind whips by with a roar."

That's great.  But the course was set up with a rock directly below the gate.  OMG no wonder someone had to be air lifted

That was Cool...  Thanks!

howdy- yep pretty crazy place for a gate

we are searching the Archives NZ library for more clips as there has been massive good feedback on this one.

btw here is another good clip of sir edmund hillary

1954) Everest Conqueror Opens Chair Lift: Sir Edmund Hillary opens the first chair lift on Mt Ruapehu providing easier access to the Whakapapa ski-field. The alpine-style chairlift built by Swiss engineers allows skiers to get higher up Ruapehu where the snow is drier and deeper. Nearby Mt Ngauruhoe fumes with jealousy!
