If your local ski shop that sold you the skis did not tune and wax them before you picked them up, then YES they need to be done. Depending on the manufacturer, they can be anywhere from fair to terrible as delivered to the shop. Many of the better shops tune and wax the skis when they do the binding mount so that the new owner will actually enjoy their first day out on thenew skis.
