What's your 2010-2011 Ski Quiver look like? - Page 4

SKI THE EAST...mostly.

Local Haunt: SkiSundown CT

East: Stowe, Stratton, Okemo, The Bush, Killington, Magic, Hunter (in NY and not for the weak of knees)

West: Whenever and wherever

My profile: 50th year of skiing and knees to show for it,  still able to mach all mountain but have the wear and tear. Ex D1 racer, 28 years ski retail / service, Volkl WC tech rep, WC freestyle and Alpine off snow trainer. Ski collection includes 300 pair antique collection. I you got any old woodies, Spaldings, Kazama's, Nishizawa's, k2's (odd skis) let me know I am a rabid collector

Race League /Nastar

            Volkl p60 175 GS

            Volkl P60 185 SG/DH

All mountain stomper

Salomon X Scream 195. These skis are legendary and still stomp the hill. Go fast, go tree, go bump, go anywhere. Have a backup still in the wrapper!

Powder

How about a nuts and bolt recommendation from the Pow Hounds. My physical dimensions are 5'11 / 195lbs aggressive skier.

Try to find the original 185 Dynastar Huge Trouble (white with black and red pattern).  115 underfoot bulldoser of a powder ski, surprisingly playful for the stiff flex and girth, and best of all often available quite cheaply either brand new of hardly used.  it would work for powder skiing in the East and for trips out West.  it is not the best ski for dealing with perfect powder, but it is the best ski for dealing with whatever powder you have on the hill (I hope it makes sense).

At your dimensions skiing 195 Screams is rather strange- I am taller than you and same weight and a number of years ago I busted my 194 Screams, so I switched to 187 for a warranty replacement.   I was glad I did.

Here ya go:

Binders in the photo aren't the 65 DIN MRR's tho. These were just some Salomon "women's" binding I put on there for testing. And the Markers are not legal. I retrofitted Avalanche titanium mountainbike rear shock springs.

Seriously, I'm thinking of ditching the whole quiver and keeping just the Jerantulas. After you ski Jerantulas everything else seems pretty lame.

A lot of overlap as I need to unload some skis, but it will do.

Would love some grizzlies, but not gonna happen.

They were warranty replacements for the blizzard argos, which I loved.  I've probably skied em 7 days now I like em for hauling straight (I like all skis I think), but they aren't ideal on harder/icy groomers, but you probably knew that.  The new zeus' with the early rise tip would be fun to try as this is their ancestor.

I was curious because I seen them on Ebay all summer brand new with a 17 DIN binding for $400.

Karhu Special Agents as crude skis

Dynastar Mythic Riders for everyday

Just bought some 2011 6th Sense Huges today

Then my race skis:

2 pairs Fischer World Cup SL

2 pairs Fischer World Cup GS

same as last year:

Atomic Snoops (everyday ski)

K2 Coombas (powder, sidecountry- mounted with Marker Barons, thinking of selling those and changing to the new F10's to drop 800gms)- I've been using these even on packed powder days sometimes.

Atomic TMx with Fritchis (ski mountaineering- really need Dynafits of these, but that will require new AT boots, so it will have to wait until next season- that's what I say every year)

Atomic REx (rock skis- not much base or edge left on these)

Fischer RC4 Worldcup slaloms (hypercarvers from a few years back- might sell these, not used too much)

Boots: Flexons, of course; Fischer RC4's (but I still like the Flexons better, I think); Lowa Strukturas for AT

My list is not very long...which is my goal actually.

Primary setup:

174 K2 Hardsides with Dynafit Vertical FT

Spring touring:

178 Dynafit Guide with Dynafit STs

Early season/rocks:

177 Volkl Mantra with Marker Jesters

Boots:

Dynafit Titan

The K2s are a recent addition...planning to do alot more  touring from now on.  I spent most of last year on Dynafits (on and off piste), and really don't see myself using the Volkls unless the snow is really thin.

I ski the Wasatch. 50/50 resort/BC. My pass is at the Bird.

Groomers: DPS Hybrid 178 Cassiar 80 mounted with Griffons

Big days in the backcountry: DPS Pure 190 Lotus 120 mounted with Dynafit FT12

Pow days: DPS Pure 192 Lotus 138...still on the fence between Dynafit FT12 vs. Dukes

Dynafit Titan boots

Snowing right now...18-30" on the way!

Fischer WC GS *race-only* 2011 183
Fischer WC SL *race-only* 2011 165
Fischer WC GS 2009 183

Boots are new for me this year skis are the second season with new graphic.

Hey, how do you like those Heli Dogs?  I have a pair new in plastic that I turned up on Ebay.  I have always thought about mounting them, but they seem really similar to my Voile Mtn Surfs.

They are pretty stout planks.  They will not noodle out on you.. not for the weak at heart or weak at anything.  If you like that sort of thing (and I do), you will enjoy them.

Just got rid of 5 pairs of old skis at the annual ski swap, so I am down to just the good stuff.

193cm  Fischer Watea 101

186cm ON3P Viciks  (hopefully arriving shortly)

204cm Stockli Stormriders (orig. 74mm waist model)

Tele - 186cm Fischer Watea 94

AT - 182cm Goode Carbon 95 – Dynafit Bindings

Sounds interesting.  My Mtn Surfs have virtually identical construction (they must have been made in the same factory), but have a lot more tip flex, I wasn't sure if it was just because they have been skied alot.  I will probably just make them wall hangers since they are likely the last pair of new Heli Dogs in existence.

I went from Atomic 10:EXs, Fritchi Plus bindings and Lowa boots to the Goodes with Dynafit binds and boots and dropped exactly 10 pounds off my feet.  Cannot begin to describe the difference.  If I had my dream setup it would have been some 105 DPS Wailers in a 187 length, but the Goodes were a screaming deal I could not pass up.

Real basic set up for me.

165 Ogasaka Truin SL- for hardpack

The only spot I'm looking to fill right now is a low 80s/170s "traditional" mid-fat.  Probably will be the new Atomic Blackeye Ti, but I won't pull the trigger until I'm done with the demos over the next 2 weeks.  This ski replaces my venerable 2005 Stockli Stormrider XL which I can't use now that I've dropped down in BSL and I can't re-drill the ski a 4th time for another binding move.

The truly scary part is those are only about half of the skis that are in my house.  Those listed are only my ACTIVE quiver for 2010-11.

Clearly I need to unload a bunch of gear.

I believe that I could "get by" with a 6 ski quiver: skinny, medium, and fat with a rock ski and a prime ski in each category.  I'm just such a gear whore though.
