Northern Light Show Tonight Aug 3

Watch for the Northern lights this evening.  Northern US states may be able to see the northern lights tonight.   Our Canadian friends should see a nice show.

Post your photos here.

I saw the northern lights in the 1950s one evening as a child in the Catskill mountains of course.  I still remember them.  My cousin who was home on leave from an Army base in Fairbanks Alaska called us and said run outside to see the Northern Lights.  Wow what a show.  I have seem them again at other times but only faintly.  Tonight should be a good show depending on cloud coverage.

since I am lazy today, can you post up any info on the best time and inclination?

Look North and look often tonight and tomorrow night. I will be watching 9-11pm and setting my alarm clock for 3:30am.  Here is a photo with the big dipper.  The North Star (Polaris) would be to the left of the big dipper in this photo.  The top two stars in this photo of the big dipper ALWAYS point directly at the North Star.  The big dipper rotates around the the North Star.  The big dipper may be upside down and on the left side of the north star depending on the time of  day.

Speaking of Northern Lights, if you ever get a chance, catch the movie "Local Hero", fantastic flick about these.

I was up and checked out the sky, but it was too cloudy here.

Hope someone caught the show.

Nothing here in the Catskills,  Too cloudy.  I was up a few times during the night.  No stars.  Lots of clouds.

Looks like rain tonight also.

I seen them from Spokane once.  Cool stuff.

I was flying last night between San Francisco and Fresno, at 19,000 feet, and saw nothing.  Too far south.

I've seen them in Spokane several times over the years.  Nothing last night

Didn't even bother trying, knew it would be too far south for me too.

I set my alarm and got up to see, but again,......no luck.  the forecast was for clear skies but it looks hazy an cloudy up there yet and no sign of a beautiful light show.

Grew up on the north side (Whitworth College area) No live south and west of downtown.  Spend most of my time now at 49 Degrees North but used to patrol at Mt. Spokane.
