Line Prophet 130 07/08 are they useable everyday.

Just looking for advice got the chance of a pair of these and I was wondering if they are useable as a everyday ski.I currently ski on a pair of Head jimi 110`s,which I do like but I would like a pair of wider ski`s for real surfing feeling, and my son will probably steal the Jimis so would I be able to use them every where within reason as I havent found the jump from mantras to Jimis difficult quite the opposite really so I tend to have more fun the wider I go so how wide can I go before they are to specific to use everywhere.

Two disclaimers in this post:

  • you haven't said where you ski or what your every day conditions are
  • I've never skied the Prophet 130

Since when have those things kept me from saying something......

Never having been on the Line Prophet 130, I can't say how they perform, but my magic 8 ball says that it wouldn't make sense for a 130 under foot ski to be a good every day ski.

This may become a  FAT/SKINNY ski debate thread and I may get flamed, especially since I've never skied this particular ski, but........

Sorry trekchick I am based in the UK so I have to travel but i mainly ski in Europe but I seek out powder where ever I go so the conditions are really variable but after going to Whistler this year I will be going back to canada neaxt year not sure where but i would like to do a bit of a road trip for a few weeks.I currently ski on Jimis which are fairly wide t 110 under foot and find them really easy to get along with but the propets are only £250 so I just wondered if anyone has any opinions on what they are like to ski as 130 is wide .But as you say it might start the thread how wide is to wide.

The Prophet 130's, especially from a couple years ago, are a very traditionally shaped ski, just fat.  Normal camber and a fairly large amount of sidecut for a ski this wide.  There's a lot more to how a ski handles in powder than just waist width.  Because of the shape, I think you'd find the 130 actually feels less surfy than the jimi's you're on now.

My Go To ski is the Kastle fx84 - 168 cm

My new powder ski is an MX 98 - 168 cm

I know that is narrow by some standards and I may end up with something BIGGER if I get more reason to have a bigger powder ski, but the skis I have, have served me well in the snow I've experienced, including 18 inches +/- on the vacations I've had in recent years.

But then, I'm a light weight so what do I really need.

thanks for that the ski that I mentioned from that year has got what they call early rise and early taper tail so I thought it may behave like the shaped skis like the s7,billy goat, wailer 120 and so on.They all seem to carry alot of waist and shape but people rave about them as being able to be skied everywhere.

The mere thought of this is mind boggling to me.  Everytime somebody asks if a ski over 110 ...heck even 100 would be a good every day ski it makes me want to pull my hair out.  It seems like such a silly question it MUST be sarcastic.  And yet inevitabely, somebody always answers yes.

I officially don't know anything about skiing anymore.
